I know everyone likes to be mean, but let's be creative here: It's not just the stereotypical fat American. Look at our athletes and body builders, a lot of people who could possibly be in these terms are healthy by all metrics; some Americans are just taller and more muscular.

I'm not downplaying the obesity epidemic, but I feel like a more generic term is appropriate here.

Alternatively: Capitalism has robbed the working class of any time for exercise while simultaneously pushing food that is dirt cheap to make with artificial additives that lead to excess consumption.

But that doesn't fit the convenient narrative of "it's all society's fault," which pushes all blame and need for action off the observer.

I disagree, I feel like this is an attempt to inject emotion and empathy into a topic that usually garners hostility. Think of the people usually reading The Wallstreet Journal: it's not anyone young you imagine, perhaps someone with terms like "commies" still in lingo from the 70s and 80s?

I read this as an attempt to humanize a group that their target audience would usually alienate. The photos help with generating those emotions.

And the world was forever lighter for it.

It's a cannon event, we can't interfere.

Has no one in this thread never considered the root cause with these:

Anxiety. Americans are an anxious society. And that is with good cause, no social safety net, work 2 jobs to get ahead and a mass shooting every goddamn day.

So, a favorite of mine is https://www.longtallsally.com/tops/shirts-blouses/c?f=t&sortby=pricelow

So, I've found that V neck twill stuff in the right colors (green, dark blue, black) and "boyfriend shirts" help lean andro-fem, especially with jeans. In most areas, your average skinny jeans will go unnoticed unless embroidered with a fem design.

The reason I link the site is because if you're on the taller side, a lot of standard sizes will fall short on the arms, in an awkward way.

Eyeliner, depending on area can be seen as middle of the road, especially if your general fashion leans into the emo/scene/goth aesthetic.

Jewelry helps, no need to start big, decorative bracelets of all sorts of fandoms, interests, and styles are out there, and generally inexpensive.

Casiano if are looking for something that won't draw attention. Heartsmith if you want something cute and eye-catching.

Currently, I use the old Tomoe, but someday that will run out, and it's hard to know what shows off ink the best.

How does one get a NAS without spending an arm and leg these days? I started pirating because I was broke, I don't have triple digits to spend on hardware.

Thank you, Ada, for your hard work.

I agree with defederation based solely on the fact that nothing can be argued without it developing into an utter shit-fest with them. They only have memes and a spectrum of weird to abhorrent takes politically to give.

What, overall would we be losing vs gaining the ability to use the rest of Lemmy in peace?

That's fine, as a person in nearly the same demographic group, it seems there are 20 people willing to spam a thread with pictures of pigs, concerning imagery with fascist roots and be generally disruptive to the site as a whole, for every level headed person.

I like the way hexbear moderates, but the people affiliated with the instance are growing more and more toxic as time goes on. Is an instance responsible for its user's behavior? No, I suppose not. But I've had to block 50 or so accounts on lemmy to be able to navigate politics and news without constant image spam, and they all come from hexbear.
