saw this one making the rounds the other day, I think it's quite fitting https://twitter.com/SaeedDiCaprio/status/1750152798623195473

do not use other genocides to describe this one

Sometimes you need to just let things go.

In these specific instances I agree with you. The few I looked at were just single or no post communities. I think the mods just want to give these a chance in case anyone actually does want to take them over and breathe some life into them.

In general though, I think it's healthy for the fediverse to have options, even with similar topics. I'm sure you might recall situations on Reddit where people didn't like how a sub was moderated, so some people would set up r/TRUEwhatever.

Garbage bags. I don't particularly care WHICH brand, but I won't do generic. The consequences if the bag rips open are horrifying.

This isn't even new. Why are we posting things from over two years ago and treating it like some sort of revelation?

Former Relay user here.

Willing to bet the comments in that thread are positive because survivorship bias, at least in part. Folks like me who deleted the app probably wouldn't have commented, after all. I'm also sure I wasn't the only one to see the subscription prompt come up and just delete the app.

knew it was coming and decided ahead of time that when I was forced to pay, I'd just delete the app.

Ars and Reddit are under the same parent company, conde nast or however that's all structured. I also have noticed ars seems to write very frequently about Reddit, even if it is usually in a critical light.

I get mixed feelings about articles like this one.

Do you realize how difficult it is to move from one country to another? It's expensive as hell, and if you're a US citizen you still owe taxes on money you make while living abroad.

Additionally, the cost to renounce US citizenship is the highest in the world by a large margin. $2350 + exit taxes, as of this writing. https://common.usembassy.gov/en/renounce-citizenship/

Next highest is Jamaica at $1040 as of this writing. https://congenjamaica-ny.org/renunciation-of-jamaican-citizenship/

The USA is an inescapable hellhole for the poor, so think for a few seconds before you make another shit comment like this.

I'm somewhat skeptical. This image originally came from a Facebook post and the lead safe mama website kind of reads like your typical social media fear mongering. The numbers provided also don't match up with each other. I also found this other random website that provides a counterpoint https://thumbwind.com/2022/07/26/vintage-corelle-dishes-2/

I'm just not sure what to make of this. On both sides, little effort is made to verify the claims beyond screenshots of pr or customer service responses.

I suppose it doesn't matter very much in the end for me though. I no longer have these dishes and I'm either damaged or damaged.

I understand this platform is still young so the community hasn't really decided on standards but imo there are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between this and email. And with email, blocking an entire domain is usually strictly to deal with spam.

For a platform like this, we should probably extend that to illegal content but no further than that imo. Objectionable content should be handled via moderation, blocking, and just not subscribing to that content in the first place.

Just my $0.02

Lots of people are probably just waiting for better apps for lemmy + the drop dead date for Reddit 3rd party apps. I am, anyway. I'd expect a shift in activity in July.
