Was fully expecting them to rush in at some point to get us out of bed, but no. When I worked up the strength to get up, I found them both eating cereal, fully dressed, with their hair brushed. That's not the impression I get at all.
She said she's taking a lead from Palestinian and Jewish peace activists. And the article has quotes from both Palestinian and Jewish representatives who see it simply as a call for freedom for an oppressed people, so that's a credible claim.
But the meaning behind what people say and how others interpret their words can be very different. It's pretty evident some people do take offense to the chant. And maybe the potential harm was more potent than any underlying good intent.
In the interview she gave with RNZ, she wasn't willing to say whether or not she would continue using the chant. Maybe she's reconsidering whether it's appropriate, and she's feel a bit whakama about the whole thing. But that's just as much conjecture as what you've said.
Anyway, my point is I don't think it's fair for you to act like this is some kind of deliberate attack.

I'm also haircut averse.
I put it off until it starts looking untidy, then continue putting it off until my wife starts hinting that I ought to get a haircut, then continue putting it off until I think maybe I'll just start having long hair.
Then one day I wake up, and decide maybe I should get a cut. So I suffer the burden of having to actively decide what my hair should look like. And generally I'm pretty happy with the results. And I think, I should do this more often. And then the cycle repeats.

Just saw on RNZ a story about a elderly gentleman up north that's lost pretty much everything in a house fire.
I don't know the guy at all, but have deep empathy for his situation. Beyond the loss of his home, beyond the loss of his taonga, it's just a deeply traumatic thing to go through.

On speaker recommendations, I'm a huge fan of my Edifier R1700BT speakers. They're a fantastic budget option, and can go for under $200 on sale. They have more cabling than a UE boom, but you could connect them to your PC via Bluetooth, and they sound gorgeous.
Wish the neighbours were a bit more subdued. Don't know for sure where they got their fireworks from, but suspect they may have come straight from Satan's asshole. Me and my wife are definitely part of the exhausted cohort of New Zealanders, so could've used the extra sleep.
