Wanted to play GW2 on my Linux Laptop (Steam Proton is easier than setting up the original Launcher), also thought about buying a Steamdeck in the future. No, you cant lauch the 2 different Versions at the same time and based on a quick Google Search, most Multilaunch Tools (GW2Buddy, GW Multi-Launch, GW Launcher) dont seem to support Steam Login.

I own 2 copies of the game (1 via Steam and 1 via the standalone Launcher).

I installed the Steam version and until now, used the "-provider Portal" Steam Launch option to switch between them. With Lunar new Year approaching I decided that, typing 2 words to change Versions, is too much of a hassle and looked for an easier solution.

Turns out, it's really simple: By adding the GW2.exe, from the Steam installation, as a "Non-Steam Game" you are able to create differnt Shortcuts, with differnt Launch options, for the same Game.

I think they moved all JPs to the weekly category, and left mini dungeons in the dailies. Also seems like the pool of minidungeons is only Spirit Vestibule, Vexas Lab or The long way around.

If its for the "do X events" weekly: the EoD map Dragons End, has a minidungeon called "Trial of the Elders". You need a Jade Bot Mastery to enter and it containes a total of 8 very fast events (they count as events but give no loot/xp), they can be done in a group or solo (recommend power reaper for solo play).

They gave away keys for the core game a few years ago so there are a lot of ~1 Dollar accounts out there but yeah completly agree with you

True. Before 1 alt was able to get ~225 Gold in mats in 3 months just by logging in, now its 75 Gold in the same time. However this same account is now able to generate 150-200+ Gold (partially in mats), in addition to the 75 Gold, within just 2-4 hours of gameplay in 3 months, with no setup beyond a high enough level character in cheap gear. This makes alt farming one of the best possible farms in the game. Especially if you are able to use ToS complient multiboxing (which can currently be used to do pretty much all pvp dailies on multiple accounts in 10 minutes by having them in your own private Custom Arena).

First of: I am a huge fan of the wizards vault and I believe it is a very good system for the average GW2 enjoyer. However, I am quite concerned with the amount of transferable wealth, farmable via alt-accounts and the general amount of gold farmed by the player base. To demonstrate it, let us take a look at some basic currencies: Astral Acclaim (AA), Gold (G), Mystic Coins (MC) and Laurels (L). (The Legendary Weapons starter kit will be excludet here, since its not directly transferable between accounts and is only available if you own SotO.)

(Edit 3: Heavy crafting bags are also excludet since they require SotO.)

For a basic Timeframe we use 3 Months = 13 Weeks = 90 Days.

Lets look at Astral Acclaim and how much you can get (ignoring the special tab and extra tasks):

  • Dailies: 65 AA + 1 G
  • 7 Dailies: 455 AA +7 G
  • 90 Dailies: 5850 AA +90 G
  • Weeklies: 690 AA + 10 L
  • 13 Weeklies: 8970 AA +130 L

Now lets look at 3 different types of alt farmers:

The 2-Klicks (login, open vault, get 5 AA, logout):

  • gets 90*5 = 450 AA = 75 G
  • net loss compared to old system

The Efficient Farmer (buys all 6 AA Gold, all MC and all BL Mastery Coffers (1 G sell)):

  • needs 6* 90 + 9* 60 +15* 20 = 1380 AA
  • 1380 AA = 2 Weeklies (or 22 Dailies)
  • gets 110 G, 60 MC, 20 L via Weeklies (or 132 G, 60 MC via Dailies)

Edit 1: Buying laurels instead or in addition of BLMC might increase your overall profit but would also increases the number of Weeklies/Dailies.

The Full Clear Farmer (all Dailies + all Weeklies):

  • gets 14820 AA (spends 1380 like Efficient Farmer)
  • spends rest (13050) on 30 AA Gold = 448 G
  • gets 648 G, 60 MC, 130 L

Edit 2: Buying laurels instead of Gold 598 G, 60 MC, 280 L

As a point of reference, the old system gave 180 G, 60 MC, 165 L and a few Materialbags + Booster for a similar amount of effort (90 days login rewards + 90 dailies).

My biggest worry here is the increased amount of gold now comming into the Economy by the general community and a few efficient Farmers, with a lot of alt-accounts. From my experience over the last few weeks: it did not take more than 2 hours to complete the Weeklies. Making it on par with the best farms in the game, with a few major differences: The reward is raw Gold, Weeklies are a lot easier, they require less coordination and it is directly scalable to the amount of alt-accounts used.

TLDR: the wizards vault drastically increased the amount of raw gold you are able to generate with the same amount of effort.

Maybe. The Bloodstones might be out of Dragonblood yes. But the mental projetion of characters makes little sense to me especially since Livia knew Isgarren and the wizards way before Aurene was born. For the illness/madness of Dragons I think void/the accumulation of, non nativ, magic over time is to blame. Altough Aurene beeing able to use Palawas magic and not suffering from any side effects is not logic at all.

For Open World and WvW Cele gear is really good. For organized group content it depends on the role you try to fill:

  1. Healing is possible in all gamemodes but a bit scuffed for Quickness application. In addition to that you will likely be the Tank (highest toughness), which can be overwhelming.
  2. DPS no problem in fractals and easy strikes but you will do considerable less dps than others, dont do it for Raids.
  3. Boon-DPS dont do it.

macros/scripts are generally forbidden but some are allowed under very specific circumstances, binding dodge and jump to the same button is allowed, as well as an auto clicker for applying the candy corn cobbler etc.

The game is designed in such a way, that you can NOT make big mistakes before lvl 80, yet always make progress on something. So take your time, go an adventure, figure things out on your own. This extends to character creation, play whatever class, you want, all of them are good and have multiple, endgame viable, builds.

If unsure about anything, use the phenomenal wiki, ask IG or on the forums. ("/wiki" +[shiftclick an item] in IG chat opens the wiki site for the item)

The PvP lobby (crossed swords top left) has basic vendors, TP access and a bank. Use it to save afk, buy/store/sell things.

Do NOT use the lvl 80 boost on your first character.

As long as you and your friends are on the same Mega Server (EU or NA) you can play together, you have all race starter Waypoints unlocked.

Inventory management is one of the most important things in the game. Here is a rough prio list for loot:

  1. Use the "Deposit All Materials" button top right in the inventory. You can access them from all Banks or Crafting stations.
  2. Type "Consumable" into the search bar of the inventory, to find things you can consume (open all bags, consume all luck, karma etc)
  3. Right clicking any item brings more options.
  4. Identify or sell unidentified Gear on the TP. ->If you identify: salvage all white, blue and greens. For yellow and orange check TP value, if value is over 25 silver (2x Ectoplasm) sell, else salvage.
  5. Selling to a npc vendor: use the "Sell Junk" button
  6. Last possible option is to destroy things
