The conduct of the strike and the scale of civilian casualties have amplified questions over the proportionality of Israel's military operations in Gaza, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say are aimed at defeating Hamas and rescuing the hostages still being held by the group.

It’s really cool - it was deliberately designed with the goal of improving literacy.

Part of how you know Israel doesn’t care about civilian lives is that if the shootings were “justifiable” to defend the aid suppliers, anyone who did care would find a safer way to deliver aid.

They’re just perpetually the victims. They starve and slowly genocide a populace and they’re the victims when the populace stands up for itself. They bomb Iran and are the victim when Iran retaliates.

Excerpt:

The team's interrogation lasted more than two hours, during which all our phones and laptops were examined, and many photos - including personal ones - were deleted. The officer threatened us with worse consequences if we approached the frontier from the Syrian side again, and said that they know everything about us and would track us down if any hidden or un-deleted photo was ever published.

The bill contains many provisions legal experts say are likely unconstitutional, including one that says it can’t be challenged in state court.

It’s quite common, but it’s also very expensive so many people who would benefit from it cannot afford it. Our insurance system is problematic enough that few therapists accept payment via insurance rather than directly.

There is talk of a lot of things. Did she provide sources, or is it like Trump’s “people are saying…”?

You’re correct that the US has adopted a terrible definition of antisemitism that conflates the state of Israel and the actions of its genocidal apartheid government with Judaism.

Someone recently shared the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism with me, which I find to be a much more reasonable definition of antisemitism.

For what it’s worth, Hezbollah has 13 of 128 seats in Lebanon’s parliament, and the CIA World Factbook says about a third of Lebanese are Christian, so I’m going to disagree with your characterization.

Hamas hasn’t held elections in nearly 20 years, so I’m going to disagree with you again. Israel’s accelerated genocide may have galvanized support for Hamas recently, but I haven’t looked into that.

What does this have to do with BBC? Their coverage on the Israeli hooligans had headlines that at a glance made the responses of locals sound anti-Semitic; they didn’t lead with the instigation.

Thank you for your balanced and measured response. What you said is completely correct. I oversimplified quite a bit in my comment.

No? What does this have to do with Jews? These were some nationalist hooligans destroying Palestinian flags and harassing Arab cab drivers. Stop trying to conflate Israelis and Jews.

https://jewishcurrents.org/recent-polls-of-us-jews-reflect-polarized-community

In the last few years, surveys have begun to suggest that a majority of American Jews do not support unconditional aid to Israel. Instead, they are willing to back conditions that military aid not be used to further Israel’s occupation of Palestinians. In fact, a substantial number of American Jews appear willing to go much further in criticizing Israel than community representatives like Daroff: A 2021 poll of Jewish voters by the Jewish Electorate Institute (JEI), for example, made waves when it found that a quarter of respondents agreed that Israel is an apartheid state.

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/05/21/u-s-jews-have-widely-differing-views-on-israel/

40% say they don’t have a lot in common with Jews in Israel. 42% don’t feel even somewhat attached to the state of Israel. 55% say caring about Israel is not essential to what being Jewish means to them. 66% do not strongly oppose Boycott Divest Sanction.

Stop trying to get people to confuse Jews and Zionists. Huge numbers of Jews have perfectly functioning moral compasses (probably about as many as average Americans) and don’t need to be conflated with Israeli instigators.

Its possible these numbers have shifted recently, as Israel works hard to scare Americans into fleeing to join their settler colonialism project.

Some excerpts:

An initial probe into the attack indicated that two drones launched by Hezbollah entered Israeli airspace from the sea, the Times of Israel learned.

Both were tracked by Israeli radars, and one was shot down off the coast north of Haifa. Sirens sounded in the western Galilee area.

IAF planes and helicopters pursued the second drone, but it dropped off the radar and Israeli forces lost track of it, likely because it flew very close to the ground. No siren sounded because the assumption was that it had crashed or been intercepted once it disappeared.

Times of Israel used as a source because other coverage so far is on “live” pages which are difficult to link to.

“At around 4:30 a.m., while peacekeepers were in shelters, two IDF Merkava tanks destroyed the position’s main gate and forcibly entered the position.

In addition to its position being breached, UNIFIL also said 15 of its soldiers are receiving treatment after another incident in the same area.

“At around 6:40 a.m., peacekeepers at the same position reported the firing of several rounds 100 metres north, which emitted smoke. Despite putting on protective masks, fifteen peacekeepers suffered effects, including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions, after the smoke entered the camp,” the statement read, without indicating who had fired the rounds.

Separately, Al Jazeera reports:

The United Nations says Israeli tanks burst through the gates of its peacekeeping force base in southern Lebanon after three platoons of Israeli soldiers crossed the Blue Line.

The UN peacekeepers said in a statement at 4:30am (01:30 GMT), two Israeli army Merkava tanks “destroyed” their main gate and “forcibly entered the position” while peacekeepers were asleep.

“The tanks left about 45 minutes later after UNIFIL protested through our liaison mechanism, saying [the Israeli military] presence was putting peacekeepers in danger,” it said.

At 6:40am (03:40 GMT), peacekeepers reported several rounds being fired about 100 metres (328 feet) north of their position in what appeared to be an attack with some sort of chemical agent.

“Despite putting on protective masks, 15 peacekeepers suffered effects including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions after the smoke entered the camp. The peacekeepers are receiving treatment.”

Since the second article’s headline was more descriptive, I used it for this post’s title.
