What a dishonest bs. It's not the scientists who communicate these dumbed down "theories", it's journalists and trivial science books and shows.

Makes me loose all respect for the author.

At the university where I studied professors were constantly talking about what we don't know. Formulated every theory extremely carefully, there was no "it is like that". What kind of scientists is he talking about?

If you give cheaters too many chances, the other students will feel betrayed. And I guess rightly so.

It's not uncommon to get mails directly, or later in course evaluation, from students who complain about other students that didn't put in the work. I can only remember few cases where there were names involved. Typically it's some general complaint, but the frustration is obvious.

It sucks when you make an effort but witness other students cheating their way through the class. What are we supposed to tell them when the dishonest behaviour of other students doesn't cause any consequences?

I still remember when I first saw this on Reddit the name of ruawri (including the trans flag) was cut off and people were insulting her in the comments how she was self-absorbed, "character looks nothing like her", "she wishes she looked like that", "women always make themselves in video games", etc.

When it turns out she is trans now suddenly it's sweet and wholesome and got featured at Respectful Memes. People are hypocrites.

It is overrated. At least when they look at AI as some sort of brain crutch that redeems them from learning stuff.

My boss now believes he can "program too" because he let's ChatGPT write scripts for him that more often than not are poor bs.

He also enters chunks of our code into ChatGPT when we issue bugs or aren't finished with everything in 5 minutes as some kind of "Gotcha moment", ignoring that the solutions he then provides don't work.

Too many people see LLMs as authorities they just aren't....

With more people joining Lemmy and other decentralised networks there is a growing shift to the common misogyny and sexism we find on other social media networks (YouTube, Reddit, etc.).

I think it's pretty obvious that the reason is that there are even less women here than other places online. What are your ideas on how to change that? Or do you feel it is a lost cause?

Please, not this again.... Personally, I am a lot in favour of communism. But some people, especially US Americans, have a fundamentally wrong idea about the housing shown in the upper picture.

This is often neither cheap, nor does it reduce homelessness. And it's also not the goal of that kind of rental homes to reduce homelessness.

That is just normal homes of average people in many places.

It's not "cheap housing for everyone".

Real life dystopia has become so boring, people not directly involved intensify drama online to bring the conflict into their online lives.

An opinion piece I find quite fitting for Lemmy as well. I wonder how a "boring" just fact based rational social media would look like?

Many years ago™ OkCupid actually had a good system, before it revamped itself and got bought by Match (Tinder).

In the old version of the website, you could answer any amount of questions from a huge catalogue of sometimes very obscure and specific questions and look for people who had very similar (or very different) answers overall. You could chat freely with everyone and had the option to look just for (platonic) friends.

I had incredibly interesting discussions with people who were at the opposite spectrum of my answers. And I made a few acquaintances and two amazing friends who still are my friends today, one is even my roommate for 8 years now! I also found a group of white hackers and Linux enthusiasts for real life meetings and we still hang out occasionally.

Two other friends of mine looked for and found romantic partners there and they are both happily married to the partners they found via OkCupid back then.

It went all down the gutter when people used the "platonic friends" option to get into your pants.

And when OkCupid tried to make more cash by pushing into the sex/romance market more and copying dating apps.

I don't think something like this would work anymore. Dating apps and the weird culture and thinking about a "sexual market" seem to have broken humans or something. This asinine idea is just another symptom.

That our diet stems from mostly molecules described in organic chemistry can also be the direct result of the fact that there are vastly more molecules considered "organic": about 19 million are known and the number is growing!

While for anorganic compounds, there are only about 100,000.

The separation into organic and inorganic chemistry is really only done to make it easier to talk about broader subjects in science. We need and use obviously a lot of compounds that aren't carbon based large molecules.

You forgot sex workers, which is actually the most dangerous job.

Humble Bundle currently has a Bundle with 8 cozy Steam games

I never played "Here Comes Niko", so I do not have any experience with that game.

But all the other games in this bundle I played already and they are all great! Humble Bundle lately had a few bundles with mediocre and bad games imho, but this bundle is honestly a very good deal if you have the money to spare.

Especially "Witchy Life Story", "Assemble with care", "Alba a wildlife adventure" and "A Short Hike" are truly amazing imho.

There are also two coupons. I think it's kind of sad they started to add coupons to bundles, but Haven Park I recommend as well. Don't know the other one.

Remember that you can buy this bundle with friends and share the keys! ╰(▔∀▔)╯

If you need help in how the sharing or Humble Bundle in general works, please leave a comment so we can explain how it's done.

There is another bundle with cozy games, this one is on Fanatical. The Link to the bundle on Fanatical

Fanatical may seem a bit suspicious, but apparently it's an official reseller of keys. At least I couldn't find anything bad about the site and I've used it in the past with no problems. Again, these are keys for Steam.

"Them's Fightin' Herds" is a fighting game with ponies drawn by Lauren Faust!

"Floppy Knights" is a turn-based strategy game with cards and a lovely protagonist and story.

"Garden Story" is an action RPG with a cute story and art.

"Kitaria Fables" is a farming game with cute art and a bit of hack&slash. The only game of that type that you can play in Coop, as far as I know (but only on the same PC).

If you only want to buy the smallest tier, I'd personally ditch Kitaria Fables because it sadly is a bit buggy and grindy at times.

If you need a 5th game I'd recommend Wall World! It's not cozy but rather stressful. :P A great game regardless.

As someone who worked in IT support at a university and later as a sys admin: I believe MOST people (including young people) can not use the internet or a computer when it goes beyond installing and using a (popular) app from the App Store.

Many people can not, for example, look up a program via search engine, go to its website, find and click the correct download link and then install the program. Many people don’t even use websites anymore, they only use applications.

Their voices are missing online simply because they are basically tech illiterate. And I think that is a huge problem.

The Nova game siblings! (store.steampowered.com)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by ParsnipWitch@feddit.de to c/cozygames@feddit.de

Nova Lands has been released on Steam. It's a Sci-Fi builder with chill music and cute pixel style.

I played the prologue Emilia's Mission, which is sadly not available anymore. :( But I thought the game was really fun.

It has a bit more depth to it than one might think from the looks of it. Since you can optimize the automatization of your crafting processes and use drones to do some work for you. A small warning: you can die in the game from a lack of oxygen and I think if you anger the bees too much they sting you.. a lot .. :D So it's not 100 % friendly.

There is also a game called Lost Nova, by the way, which is also a cute Sci-Fi game which costs a bit less and is not a builder, but an Open World Exploration game.

So don't confuse the two. ( “・ω・゙)

On Reddit you also have multiple subreddits on technology. Especially when Reddit was just starting out several people started technology subreddits. It is just that you only visited the one most popular with the most users and most content. Which built up over quite some time. I think it is weird to expect Lemmy instances to be exactly like Reddit is now, when you consider Reddit is 17(!) years old.

While there will be a few instances which are very niche because they get defederated from anyone else and they may have a technology community as well, for the bigger, federated instances there will be the one big technology community again.

Currently people all over the fediverse start new communities without checking if they already exist. This won’t go on indefinitely…

The first game I ever played of the genre was probably Wandering Willows. It's quite old, release was in 2009. It was very different from all the other games I played up until then (which was mostly Final Fantasy, Zelda, Mortal Combat and the like xD).

You are stranded on an island and have to fulfill quests and help the villagers. As a companion you can catch various pets and level them. There is also farming and character customization.

You can find a lot of Free Demos for nice games on Steam at the moment! My favourite Demo is Go-Go Town.
