She basically said it herself though.

Really expensive over here, so people only buy them for status basically. Having an iPhone signifies that you're well off enough to not worry about price.

I had a friend who said exactly this. She was just buying it to show off basically. She didn't even believe me when I said the back was glass for some reason lol. And when she got it, she had to get used to counter-intuitive behaviour like the power button cutting a WhatsApp call. She did this multiple times on a call with me, it was pretty funny!

Another friend kinda regrets buying it now because he feels locked in to the Apple ecosystem.

Personally, I don't think I'll ever switch because F-Droid is a huge part of my phone experience. When my Pixel runs out of support, I'll probably just root it.

It's a great phone. Solid hardware, good software. Just not for me.

Yeah killing millions of people was totally worth getting one man!

Now let's bomb Washington DC to rubble and kill your family so we can get to Bush, the even bigger war criminal.

I think there's a setting to bring back the buttons, if you want that.

Settings -> System -> Gestures -> System navigation

I think it's a little uncharitable to Sync to characterise it like this. Yes, it collects personal data to show ads. However, you have the choice to refuse or pay a one time fee to get rid of it entirely. It's the nonconsensual nature of data collection that robs users of their agency that makes it problematic.

Devs need to eat and donations are not always a realistic revenue scheme. With the one time fee, Sync has signalled it cares about its users and not just value extraction like Big Tech. I will probably pay that and be happy.

I like Liftoff, I also like Sync. I use both atm.

All piracy is ethical because Intellectual Property is a lie.

I will pirate from megacorps and indies, anyone who sets up a demand based distribution system for products.

The only products I will not pirate are those that have a needs based distribution system and are finite.

The co-author of the book has scrubbed his profile of any connection to this, Jacob Silverman.

No way that's true. Most social media users are in Asia and Africa where Android is King!

Just use Firefox? Available on desktop and Android.

It even has adblock extensions on Android!

Looks like most major tech companies are trying to include NFTs in their ecosystem, on their own terms of course.

Having to comply with Google's Real-Money Gambling, Games and Contests policy should mean users are protected from most scams.

Pretty sure this is just the apps adding up all the upvotes/downvotes you receive and not an actual Lemmy feature.

I only know him for being a massive dick on Community. Looks like that's his entire life lol

A pervasive problem here is that there just aren't enough jobs for everybody. Or at least, not a job that pays well enough to consider. The educational system is lagging behind too, with not enough seats for the millions of young people who need it.

This is papered over by the fact that we have good economic growth rates. But, this is confusing the stock market for the economy. The rate of inequality is also steadily climbing with the percentage of wealth owned by billionaires only being second to Russia.

Running a Pixel 6 with default OS right now.

Will change to GrapheneOS when it's no longer supported.

Why did I choose it? Because there's no real choice besides Android in the phone world. Apple won't let me install the things I need and is unnecessarily expensive. Plus, the camera is really good.

The Polygon policy team made this excellent website collating all the way crypto adds value to things.

A common criticism of crypto is that it's not really useful for anything. Well, you now have a list of things where they are proving useful!

I never understood books that romanticised summer. Like wow you love 40C weather at 90% humidity with a chance of getting a heat stroke in less than an hour?

Reddit has subreddits. What does Lemmy go with?

My personal vote is for lemmings!

Edit: I am personally leaning towards Sublemmy now. It retains the context of being a forum under the general sphere of Lemmy and the connection to Reddit lets people know immediately what Lemmy is about. Thanks to @BurningnnTree@lemmy.one for the comment!
