The link says that NoScript is "redundant with uBlock Origin"

I like NoScript because I can click on its icon on the toolbar, and easily select which scripts on a given page to whitelist, or which to whitelist temporarily (until browser quit.) And on any page, I can select which set of scripts (by domain name) on that page to run or whitelist.

With uBlock Origin, it's only "all script on the page" or "no scripts on the page", right?

Now's a good time to advertise the fediverse, if you're still on reddit. Just pick your favorite instance, and tell people to check it out and to click "login/register" if they like it.

The US version is one of the big 3 broadcast channels transmitting since the mid 1900s, though it's now also on cable:

Every time I go to the ATM to get cash it shows me an ad for a service and the options are "Yes" and "No thanks."

I am forced to choose one. I am forced to thank them for showing me an ad before they give me my own money.

OpenAI scraped the Internet, legally and illegally to power ChatGPT.

I'm not a huge OpenAI fan, but it's not yet been determined that they acted illegally. I believe the matter is still being pursued in court.

Wired articles are generally about interesting topics but take a sensationalist click-bait approach. I usually just skim the headline and look up the info somewhere more reputable if it sounds important.

For example, here's some info from the USDA:

Plastic storage containers such as margarine tubs, take-out containers, whipped topping bowls, and other one-time use containers should not be used in microwave ovens. These containers can warp or melt, possibly causing harmful chemicals to migrate into the food.

Well, tensions were building, then there was an Incident, now they are trying a reconciliation so there will be a moment of calm. See here for more info: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycle_of_abuse

Right? I don't understand why people on the fediverse are getting excited about this. At best, Reddit will have admins to insta-wipe anything objectionable. At worst, Reddit will point to the increased engagement as a sign that the protesters gave up and came back.

Them: “How do people even make money on there then?”

You: "The same way I'm making money off of you now." (pause) "I don't. We're just friends."

Washington Post had an article about this with a lot more facts, a couple days ago:

(temporarily free article on a mostly-paywalled site.)

"There is nothing special about Reddit except its community and the content the community created."

This is the fundamental truth that rules all others.
