Please, do not rid me of this troublesome priest despite me repeatedly saying that he was a troublesome priest, and somebody should do something. Unless you think it is ethical to do so.

Re the “A lot of the early Rationalists" bit. Nice way to not take responsibility, act like you were not one of them and throw them under the bus because "genuinely crazy" like some preexisting condition, and not something your group made worse, and a nice abuse of the general publics bias against "crazy" people. Some real Rationalist dark art shit here.

There is some dark irony here in that the "we must make sure the AI doesnt turn bad" people cant even stop their own people from turning bad after looking at their own ideas. Wonder if they have already went "musk isnt a real Rationalist" (imho he isnt but for some reason LWers seem to like him) after he turned Grok basically into a neonazi (not sure if it is was reported here but Grok is now doing great replacement shit when asked about Jewish "control of the media").

Imagine how messy divorces now suddenly get. (Dont worry I know how they will fix this, just ban divorce!)

I enjoyed what I have seen from the series so far tbh. Doesnt follow the books religiously l, but still a good bit of sf imho. They seem to understand scale at least.

I will just debate big brother to change their minds!

Sadly we talked about those here, and how unlikely they are to going to work, either in the future or ever. Also, think it was a fusion reactor.

Re being a transhumanists: Well that is why I personally dont like the term tescreal, as I do think there can be good transhumanists out there. The hot swappable furry sex organ transhumanists vs the I just want to code javascript faster transhumanists. (Meant as strawman of both, but Id prefer the first, esp as they are more likely to go the 'it should be available to all of us or none of us' route).

Personally I dont think I would mind living forever (or untill Im tired of it) given everyone gets the choice we stay healthy and have free stuff for example. But that will not happen under the Muskians/Rationalists/etc. (im remembering the moment I discovered one of the H+ people was spouting anti trans lines for example, they just want to personally live forever and fuck everyone else it seems).

E: ah they got told to leave.

They traded coal interstellarly, which always made me lol. Think a lot of the people who are this hype about the older sf simply have not read them again in ages. As blakestacey says, the golden age is 12.

He might have also lost a lot of money in betting markets re the nyc primary and his attempt at market manipulation us leading to more exposure of the guy. A very foot shooting moment.

I now imagine a date going 'hey what is wire heading?' before slowly backing out of the room.

Begrudgingly Yeast (@begrudginglyyeast.bsky.social) on bsky informed me that I should read this short story called 'Death and the Gorgon' by Greg Egan as he has a good handle on the subjects/subjects we talk about. We have talked about Greg before on Reddit.

I was glad I did, so going to suggest that more people he do it. The only complaint you can have is that it gives no real 'steelman' airtime to the subjects/subjects it is being negative about. But well, he doesn't have to, he isn't the guardian. Anyway, not going to spoil it, best to just give it a read.

And if you are wondering, did the lesswrongers also read it? Of course: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/hx5EkHFH5hGzngZDs/comment-on-death-and-the-gorgon (Warning, spoilers for the story)

(Note im not sure this pdf was intended to be public, I did find it on google, but might not be meant to be accessible this way).

The interview itself

Somebody else sneered: 'Makings of some fantastic sitcom skits here.

"No, I can't wash the skidmarks out of my knickers, love. I'm too busy getting some incredibly high EV worrying done about the Basilisk. Can't you wash them?"

Eliezer complements Musk on the creation of community notes. (A project which predates the takeover of twitter by a couple of years (see the join date: https://twitter.com/CommunityNotes )).

In reaction Musk admits he never read HPMOR and he suggests a watered down Turing test involving HPMOR.

Eliezer invents HPMOR wireheads in reaction to this.
