I've been watching Astrid et Raphaëlle. Still need the subtitles because my French is appalling, but I'm really enjoying it!

Native Denims is an Irish jeans brand. Bespoke, so kinda pricy, and their cotton is sourced internationally. But the actual jeans themselves are made right in Dublin.

In theory a massive global depression would be. In the same the drop in consumerism during the pandemic lockdowns had a measurable effect, a similar drop in anyone being able to afford anything could do the same.

But as the other user mentioned, the EU is already rolling back on environmental requirements to try and resist an economic downturn. Other countries and trade blocs might do the same. The lockdowns had a significantand rapid bounce back when they ended, upping emissions, which might be replicated. And of course a depression would also cause mass, irreparable harm to millions of people regardless of any environmental benefits it might entail.

Tl;dr: Possible? Yes. Probable? Hard to say. Worth it? Almost certainly not.

On the one hand, funding local production is something I'm all in favour of. So much of our cultural consumption is US produced, and Ireland has a lot of talent not being used (as do all the other european nations).

But knowing how the Irish government treats all levies and taxes, this levy would just go in a big pot labelled 'income' and get spent subsidising an overcosted hospital or road project. Nothing in Ireland gets ringfenced for specific areas. Government's need to show they actually are interested in supporting the arts first, or nobody will trust this kind of levy will go where they say it will.

It really is the only response to what's going on without totally losing your mind.

Straight out of the US textbook. God forbid people choose to call out their governments for supporting genocide.

Turns our whiskey is the secret to immortality. I should make the switch.

There's something kind of amusing about an oral care company having such a huge array of toothcare products...and not having the second most basic one after toothbrushes.

My guess would be rising cost of living across large chunks of the world leaves less free cash to spend. Couple that with the cost of hotels and other tourism related items in Ireland, I'm not surprised tourism is taking a hit.

The creator originally used a website maker which had it as standard. I saw in another community that they've got some folks helping them to rebuild it without using the sitebuilder so they can get rid of Google analytics. So hopefully it'll be rid of Google soon!
