As far as my understanding goes, Zed uses the GPU only for rendering things on screen. And from what I've heard, most editors do that. I don't understand why Zed uses that as a key marketing point

Yes. And I think some high end mouses can store multiple preset settings in memory to switch on the fly without requiring any software. Moreover, there are some scenarios in which you can't install any software, in an office-issued computer or in a eSports tournament computer.

The proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers works pretty well in most distros. Just go to your distro's driver manager and enable the proprietary driver.

Yes, but only for apps that which I want to be on the very latest versions. One might ask why I don't use a rolling release distro, that's because I prefer a solid LTS base.
