Very strong Heavy from Team Fortress 2 vibes. Even the toy is named 'Cha-cha' which sounds like 'Sacha' which is the name Heavy uses for his weapon.

Here is our regular update that explains what we have been working on for the past two weeks. This should allow average users to keep up with development, without reading Github comments or knowing how to program.

We are slowly getting closer to the 0.19 release, although there is still a lot of work left. Client developers should read this post with information about breaking changes to update their projects.

Edit: You can test the latest 0.19 code on voyager.lemmy.ml, or by installing 0.19.0-beta.8 on your server. Be sure to report any bugs on Github.

@nutomic has closed over 100 issues, most of them duplicates, invalid or already resolved ones. He also made numerous pull requests to fix minor bugs and implement small enhancements. This includes a bug fix for federation of admin actions which was released as 0.18.5. He is also changing the way HTML escaping is handled to avoid broken texts.

@dessalines is working on redesigning the join-lemmy.org website, adding the apps and instances pages. Also worked on rewriting the Docker images to use Debian as base instead of Alpine. Additionally he is adding support for new backend features to lemmy-ui (scaled search and cursor-based pagination).

@SleeplessOne1917 has implemented support for new block instance feature, finished implementing the remote follow feature, and updated 2-Factor-Auth to account for a backend rework. He also implemented some bug fixes. He has also been working on adding authentication to lemmy-ui-leptos.

Support development

@dessalines and @nutomic are working full-time on Lemmy to integrate community contributions, fix bugs, optimize performance and much more. This work is funded exclusively through donations.

If you like using Lemmy, and want to make sure that we will always be available to work full time building it, consider donating to support its development. Recurring donations are ideal because they allow for long-term planning. But also one-time donations of any amount help us.

It's a disgusting, terrible instance. Back when I added them to our blocklist and fediseer they even had pedobear on display as if they were proud. They have a MAP community and Pedo memes.

The link posted by OP has our findings in it with a few of their posts on an archive site for those who don't want to go to the instance directly: (https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/rqd2.net)

!boostforlemmy@lemmy.world saw it's official release and the announcement over on Reddit gave us a bump, much like when !syncforlemmy@lemmy.world was officially released a while back.

Also there might have been a (albeit smaller) bump a few days ago due to Reddit removing the ability to opt out of ad personalization.

Heya! Not really. It's just a few communities that are being spammed really hard, so only those are removed. I think the work you're doing by flagging these spam accounts is already very helpful to Ernest and his team. He himself was kind enough to join us in this thread and give us some more information. For now all we can do is wait..

Thank you for your patience and understanding :)

This was not about "abusive members" this was about a member having too many communities according to you. We both seem to have a very different definition of "abuse".

The user in question does have a lot of communities but he is very active and has different moderators who he manages. Also, when the moderators of these communities do well he transfers the community over to them. As recently as yesterday when he transferred !movies@lemmy.world and !marvelstudios@lemmy.world.

While he has a lot of communities he does a good job managing his communities and training moderators and is making our lives as admins easier. If someone has a lot of communities and doesn't do anything with them, that is squatting and we take action. I think we have a good track record of that.

So unless there is something we are missing I really would not call any of what the user in question did "abusive".

Lastly the best way to get someone to look at your problem is to use the report feature. The reason you got no reply in nine days is because there was no problem.

Vinden wij ook hoor

Edit: we think so too

Better learn dutch now for when it becomes our instance's primary language once @ruud, @quinten and I pushed out the other admins.

I mean, it's easy to go over to feddit.nl and see they only have one admin who has not been active in almost two weeks.

Full transparancy: the abuse we were dealing with from that instance was vote manipulation and worse, csam. Especially in the case of csam we can not wait for days for a reaction.

The app that synchronizes multiple lemmy accounts so you can migrate and keep backup accounts across instances, it's opensource and free, currently working in android and windows.

It's in homologation now and anyone can test, any feedbacks are welcome as always.

If you find any bugs please report

Alternative UI: Photon (photon.lemmy.world)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) by antik@lemmy.world to c/lemmyworld@lemmy.world

We added an extra UI for our users. Photon by Xylight is an interface with a sleek, modern look and has all the bells and whistles you would need. Moderator tools included! You can access the UI from https://photon.lemmy.world.

Visit Photon's project page on github or get in touch with the developer in the !photon@lemmy.xylight.dev community. If you want to use photon on other instances you can do so from https://phtn.app.

Update: @Xylight has set up a donation link so if you like photon as much as I do, show him some love! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/xylight

We've launced a public discord server at https://discord.gg/lemmyworld

The reason for why we choose discord is because it was easier to moderate and manage than other options. Besides we also had a discord-bot guru by the name of Rooki who created a neat bot that allowed us to connect/verify discord users to their Lemmy World account.

So if you are a moderator and you are looking for some extra hands to moderate your community, or if you need to contact anyone from the LW team, this is the most efficient way to do it!

Come have a look!

We are not 'dropping' messages from smaller instances. @ruud@lemmy.world and others did tighten up some things to fend off some attacks but that should not interfere with the federation.

If you could have at least mentioned your instance name we could ask our backend administrators to have a look and we could get back to you with an informed answer.

We will not close registrations, what we will do is show people information on how the fediverse works and give them the option to register on other instances. That will be implemented in the next couple of days.

[-] antik@lemmy.world 109 points 11 months ago

We should probably have released a statement before going over into action and blocking them. But an official statement on this is coming asap.

[-] antik@lemmy.world 251 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

There is a status page up on https://status.lemmy.world

We have been dealing with some DDOS attacks and are still taking extra measures to get everything more stable but we are working with people in different timezones so it's not always as easy to react.

So yes, we are working on improving things.
