That's pretty much it, after several months, maybe even a year of wanting to take the leap, a couple days ago I finally did it. I just wanted to share this cuz I think it's an absolute win, and I guess just see if anyone has any general advice to keep in mind during the process. I ended up choosing Fedora, right now I'm dual booting while I'm still in the process of finding software alternatives and getting everything set up, but trying to minimize my use of windows as much as possible, and so far I've been loving it. I love this community and I just wanted to thank everyone that has given any advice or suggestions in the past, i'm really excited about this and grateful that I could get to this point.

A video essay about the Fediverse that I made. I'm by no means an expert I've only been in the Fediverse for a few months, but I felt very passionate about it and wanted to share that with others. Lemme know what you think :)

Sorry for the long post

I was diagnosed when I was 2nd or 3rd grade, I don’t really remember. I never struggled too much when I was in school, I struggled a lot with getting things turned in on time but I was lucky enough to have pretty understanding teachers so I always had decent enough grades. I’ve always been good at accomplishing and finishing things when other people were involved and wanting me to complete those tasks, like in a school or work environment where there’s people above me that expect something from me.

But now I’m 20 years old, I’m out of school, and have been out of a job for months. I’ve been trying to work on my own projects, mostly a YouTube channel and a website, some things like that, and along side some general house work tasks (laundry, emptying my cats litter box, etc) that’s pretty much all my responsibility at the moment while I’m looking for a job. Sometimes I have moments where I really “lock in” and get a lot done, and even outside of that I tend to get by well enough, but it usually comes with really strong and prevalent moments of feeling like “I’m not doing enough” or “this task I’m doing isn’t productive enough”, and I just hate myself for having any moment where I’m not 100% busy or dedicated to something.

I’ve tried a lot of different methods, making task lists so that I can see everything and make sure it gets done, I’ve spent a lot of time journaling and organizing my thoughts in obsidian which I think has helped me visualize some things better and see my priorities, and even asking other people to check in on me so I can have some kind of person relying on me to complete these tasks like I did in work and school situations, but it all usually comes down to me not holding myself accountable and being too lenient with myself, which is a hard thing to correct. I’ll eventually ignore my task list or not even add anything to it and things like that. I’ve also found my friends or whoever I ask to check on me to be unreliable and inconsistent so that doesn’t work.

I feel like I just live a constant cycle of starting things and abandoning them because I struggle so much with getting things done and staying dedicated. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else could relate to this struggle, and this way I’m feeling, and if anyone has any good suggestions or methods that have helped them.

Hey I’m very new to Linux and don’t super know what I’m doing, so you’re gonna have to bear with me.

I recently installed Kubuntu on an old desktop my dad gave me, it’s a Dell XPS 8900 with an i7 6700, a GeForce GTX 745, and he upgraded it to have a whopping 64 gigabytes of ram because it kept slowing down and he thought that would fix the issue lol. He upgraded recently so now it’s mine.

Originally I wanted to run Linux Mint but i could never finish the install process because it kept running into some kind of error with the bios, and would freeze there forever even when I let it sit for hours and hours, so I went with Kubuntu since I figured it would be a pretty similar experience? Maybe I’m wrong in that but I figured since Mint is Ubuntu based I’d just go with Ubuntu, but I prefer KDE Plasma so Kubuntu it is.

Kubuntu installed without issue everything was fine and it seemed great, but then I realized every time I booted the machine my main drive would have nearly 100 gigs of extra storage being taken up. I had no idea where it was coming from, I thought I somehow got a virus or something even though it was a fresh install, I had hardly added anything but a web browser and Vencord from the discover store. But after I did some digging I discovered it was the kernlog and syslog files, which were each nearly 350 gigs in size and continued growing the whole time the system was on. I opened them and they were both just full of this error over and over again,

"pcieport 0000:1c.0: pcie bus error: severity=correctable, type= physical layer" "AER: Correctable error message received from physical 0000:00:1c.0"

Probably millions of times honestly for it to be that large in size. I have no idea what to do about this, I tried updating drivers, reseating components, but nothing really seems to be working. Does anyone have any ideas? I apologize if it’s an easy fix but I’m literally brand new to this and don’t know anything lol.

What's the reason for doing this? are you just trying to find a place that seems like a good fit for you or do you just do it for the love of finding new experiences? Where has been your favorite place you've lived so far and why?

Any advice you’ve ever heard or given. I linked a great video that I think would be my answer, combined with the “stop caring what other people think about you” and “comparison is the thief of joy” comments below. Just do stuff that you wanna do, don’t compare and don’t care what others say. It’s awesome advice.

Edit: thanks everyone for asking me questions I had a lot of fun doing this and answering all of them. You are all very kind and friendly and it’s much appreciated :)

Feel free to continue asking me things if you see this, I will continue answering as long as they come because I think it’s a lot of fun.

I'm relatively new to the linux space, I was introduced by the steam deck which uses kde, and it's pretty similar to windows in terms of how it works so that's the DE i'd be leaning towards when I eventually switch. I've never used gnome so i'm not sure if it'd be worth using I guess?

So I'm just looking for some input from the community, do you use Gnome or Plasma, why do you use it, and what's kind of like a pros and cons kinda thing between the two?

This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for I had no idea kde connect existed, you are a blessing

Yep I sure did the thing you said not to do. I’m very new to a lot of this stuff still learning, I didn’t think about it and thought it would just work in was able to recover all my files and everything is fine so I’m not worried about it anymore and I understand the issue now. So this has just been a learning experience, I’m moving on with the second message you suggested and just making a new folder and copying stuff over. Thanks for the input man
