"misidentified as a suspect" my ass. Correctly identified as a person of colour. I wish they would talk honestly about these things.

European legal systems are largely built around the idea that courts are apolitical, and that judges make their decisions neutrally based on the word of the law and the facts of the case.

This is of course impossible, but some people—especially judges themselves—are afraid that the system would collapse if the public learned how political the work of courts really is. So when France started publishing all the judgments of their courts to the public, they also forbade the public from studying individual judges.

It's pretty funky.

Thanks, updated my post! Some of those are pretty intuitive, but I didn't want to make assumptions. :)

Hadn't quokk.au before - looks great!

So some general purpose PieFed instances with neat domain names other than the flagship are:

The list seems to be growing very quick, which is of course cool.

Yeah, nothing against Uma Thurman. It just seems like the stereotype of what a market analyst would come up with if asked to make a movie poster.

Actors are professionals, I don't blame them for working for Netflix. It's not like it's worse than the Weinstein company. I just wish the production companies of streaming platforms weren't so goddamn soulless.

Coming soon: Purple Kill Bill, only on Netflix™.

I think it has to do with activitypub, where Mbin follows the link, extracts some activitypub details from it, and then displays a link to the local version of the thread based on these details rather than showing the link itself. They also extract community icons and the user name of the OP.

It seems it might not work consistently 100% of the time, but when I've seen it it has been pretty useful, and it should at least be possible in theory. :)

Yeah, it's a frustrating bug. Mbin has solved it to some degree, hopefully others will follow eventually. :)

Lykke til!! Artig å høre at det fortsatt er norskamerikanere som holder stand. 💪

A few weeks ago I finally emptied and cancelled my Dropbox in favour of a Nextcloud server.

The app works much better on Linux, it integrates wonderfully with all my devices (I already used it for contact lists and notes), and I save €50 per year that I can donate to open source projects instead of wasting it on Dropbox.

Super happy to see Nextcloud take the lead on other fields as well. My co-authors sometimes insist on word, and co-authoring via Word and LibreOffice in locally stored files as we are currently doing is a mess.

Of course, studying the performance of individual judges is criminalized in France, so we have very limited ability to know about their individual performance. :)

It's a huge lie that judges are neutral, but some argue it's a necessary lie.
