So here's a thing.

Organised by the International Society for BTS Studies (ISBS) and Universiti Malaya (UM), the upcoming fourth edition conference in 2023 to be hosted by Malaysia is scheduled to be held for the first time in Southeast Asia from 16-17 Aug.

In an interview with Bernama recently, UM's Department of East Asian Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Associate Professor Dr Jimmyn Parc said as this year marks the 40th anniversary of South Korea's inclusion in the Look East Policy (LEP), the conference is dubbed as a vital component of the "New LEP".

Six months have since passed and the patient is now living a healthy life. The transplant has thus been hailed as a resounding success.

To learn more about the operation, FMT Lifestyle spoke to three representatives from the medical team behind it. These were Dr Lim Soo Kun, a nephrologist and UMMC’s renal division head; Dr Shanggar Kuppusamy, a urologist; and Dr Raja Iskandar Shah Raja Azwa, an infectious disease expert.

From the link:
In Singapore and beyond, there has been a quickening of interest in the anticolonial and socialist struggle of the 50s and 60s after the publications of archival research by historian PJ Thum and of the Eisner-winning graphic novel The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye by Sonny Liew, among other works. The undisputed leader of this historical struggle was the student activist, trade unionist, and politician Lim Chin Siong (LCS), who organised the largest social movement in Singapore to fight for democracy, freedom, and justice. Although this movement ultimately failed, it opens a window into an alternative future for Singapore, Malaysia, and the rest of Asia—a window that creative writers with their imaginative powers can help us look at and through.

Deadline for submissions is 1 December 2023. There are also introductory material on Lim Chin Siong himself and the historical context he was in.

Unfortunately their twitter thread about Lim is not mirrored anywhere else, but if you like, here's the thread

Yeah it's theatre but I figure boleh lah. Apparently got good buzz. I wish I can go.... Synopsis : 16 year-old Ajay must navigate the intricacies of growing up in a traditional Malaysian Indian household while learning to explore and accept his own identity without losing the one person who matters most to him; his mother.

Tix available for evening and matinee shows.

It sounds like he's not sure what's the full extent of his medical condition. In the meantime there's a fund you can donate to (announced at end of vid).

I suppose even if GitHub or any code repo is too technical at least it's public. Discord is easier for more ppl because dah biasa but the fact it's always gated always bothers me. But anyway, thank you tho! Maybe for whichever option if the person cannot get into the platform, as long as someone can tolong to convey the issue, ok kut.

we do have a research reactor though. but let's be real, the problem with nuclear at this point isn't the tech but the governance (for maintenance, upkeep, etc). i'm a nuclear energy idealist myself, but those are legit concerns. i'm optimistic though, since it's my understanding, there's more evidence now for tech that's not based on dirty and weaponisable fission material.

You don't, but you can subscribe to the comms on that instance from your instance here.

If they're already federated with monyet.cc, in the search bar search !(community)@(instance). Unless it's kbin, then it's @name@instance.

If not (or just in general), get the full http url and paste in your home instance search bar and then subscribe

Whoa: horrible not even funny twitter news. I'll put spoiler tags to the summary because it's about pedo content

CSAM mention___ OK Melon Husk finally did something SO REPULSIVE that I think I genuinely can't any more.

I highly recommend you don't learn too much about it, but let's just say that an "influencer" posted some stills from one of the most disgusting child sex/murder videos ever made by our species. I'm not going to link to anything but Google "Peter Scully" if you need to know.

Twitter's barely-functional trust and safety team very rightly banned this "influencer". Melon Husk PERSONALLY reinstated the guy.

This thread (Nitter link) spells out the legal implications

Encourage citizen scientists... And also talk to locals and encourage knowledge-sharing. Much of the field is changing positively in this regard but no doubt old-school attitude esp in the harder sciences was very dismissive and patronizing of local experience. So yeah, this is encouraging.
