I think the person you replied to intentionally chose “Centrists,” not “GOP.” The problem here is corporate capture of Congress. Republicans are the default gatekeepers, but when populist ideas such as this on the left start to take root, that’s when the democrats come out to squash the effort. Think Manchin, Sinema for the usual suspect scapegoats. But if shit gets real, look at how Pelosi laughs off the STOCK act whenever it’s mentioned. Because of course, policy makers should get to partake in unlimited insider trading, right? Because how else would they be incentivized to continue repealing regulations to allow for wider corporate profit margins.

That’s pretty interesting, the child-psychology perspective hadn’t occurred to me. Nice!

I think the implication here is that she’s reinforcing to the little girl the idea that the man chooses whether or not something as life-changing as marriage can/will occur, and that a woman is helpless to surrender to his choosing.

Based on the title, the author likely regrets reinforcing these gender norms.

All he ever does is whine and cry - it’s amazing how conservatives look up to him as some kind of strong man. I just don’t see it, like, at all.

When we reform campaign finance laws so that corporate media can no longer buy policy positions, things can change. Until then it’s not happening, because this exact thing resulted in the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine during Reagan’s presidency in 1987.

Except for the fact that Trump’s massive pressure on Jerome Powell did exactly that. The results were historic low interest rates and printing of money by the trillions, which was the precursor to the greed-flation we’re faced with today.

When the CEOs (Kroger, looking at you) are literally bragging on quarterly earnings calls about raising prices and keeping them there just because they can - we call that Price Gouging. If only we had some kind of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that could help to regulate these greedy business practices…

Ok Biden, time to do something about these fascists. They just gave you everything you need to squash the threat, on a silver platter fit for a king. It’s time to process the new information, understand the powers granted to you, and act - are you up to this task? Please don’t let America down, because you have asserted yourself as the only one who can now do anything about it.
