I never understood this until I saw link rot in action. Great projects just disappeared when people forgot to renew domain names or hosting contracts. Others went away when big services like Geocities vanished. Wikipedia and Google censorship took out a lot of others.

This stuff is like Malthus: we know it will be true at some point, but we do not know when, and 99% of humanity is unconcerned until the situation is too bad to fix.
Most likely, humanity is going to exterminate itself through political instability (haves versus have-nots) and with political collapse, end its ability to have functional economies, returning us to subsistence hunter-gatherer with small holding farms level.
I like RapidShare and Mega, but as someone else said here, if you are trying to archive or share with a small audience, encrypt it and give it a generic filename and upload to your favorite normie service.

Has anyone mentioned immigration? What about welfare? Removing those would help a great deal. So would my personal favorite solution, which is putting wolf habitats in the middle of cities so that they eat the weak.
Get rid of the taxes and the growth requirements are way down. Technology seems to have stabilized and we are now realizing that the whole internet boom was a bubble.
May not even require economics. Space in Earth is finite and each human requires more space not just to live but for food, products, schooling, hospitals, government offices, restaurants, etc.

Interesting that Windows was in development before the Macintosh. To be fair, lots of 8-bit systems had experimental GUIs at the time as well.
