That's the "belly". Lots of hollow grounds have one. You're right that it's minimal on the Schweinchen.
Do you think it's different from the Schweinchen's smile?

- Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with unbleached 26 mm Zenith knot set at 56 mm loft
- Razor: C. V. Heljestrand MK № 31 (square point, full hollow, 5/8", carbon steel)
- Lather: Southern Witchcrafts – Autumn Ash
- Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Nocturne
- Fragrance: Southern Witchcrafts – Autumn Ash
I leaned into the season today with this Nocturne Ash combo. Really enjoyed lathering with the strong backbone on this brush and got a nice shave with the butter smooth Heljestrand. The SW base is really great.
The Koraat was sharp, but not comfortable. I tried to correct this, and sure enough, sharpness decreased.
Ouch. Is this Koraat being difficult to maintain?
Ha! Satirlingday!
We'll workshop that name
Yeah, that sounds right, unfortunately

- Lather: Stirling Soap Co. – Satsuma

Really enjoying the bright happy orange juice of Satsuma. I know there are also spicy notes, but it's mostly orange to me, and that's just what I was looking for.
Generally, if you can't get an edge to refine as you move to smaller-sized abrasive, that's an issue with temper. Literally, the steel is too brittle and won't support refinement beyond that point.
Except that stropping makes it sharper, though! This points towards ductile steel forming a burr, rather than brittle steel chipping when refined, no?
I'll explore both directions, starting with thinking about better burr removal
An improvement is an improvement, though. Everything pointing the right way 😊
How about you? Getting better as well?
London and Paris are fun, but so are Amsterdam and Bruges. If you have only a few days, might as well take advantage of where you are
Edit: I meant Brussles, but the automiscorrect was fortunate because Bruges is adorable too

Finally feeling a bit better after 2 days of fever, coughing, and headache, and I had a wonderful Fougère Friday shave to make me feel halfway human again.
The knot in this Rubberset is set deep an is really squeezed into the tight ferrule. As a result, it has by far the strongest backbone of my brushes. This was my AA brush a year ago and I like it a lot. It picks up soap quickly and creating that slick thick mutton tallow lather of Varen worked like a charm. The half hollow Heljestrand felt butter smooth melting through whiskers ATG.

A nice Mammoth Monday to kick off the week. I chose a mix of contrasting warm frags for this one. From a woody winter cabin kind of hyggelig warmth, to the dry warmth of Marlborough, to finally the gourmand sweet warmth of Tobacco Vanille. Delightful.
The TI 14 has become a favourite in my den.
