  • Lather: Subtle Art Soap Co. - Citrus Bay Rum - Soap
  • Post Shave: Subtle Art Soap Co. - Citrus Bay Rum - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Coconut - Toner

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Though sold out, the knot in this brush is still listed as a SHD knot.

I don't see a lot of Subtle Art Soap on the sub. This is a very nice vegan artisan soap with a nice family of scents. This Citrus Bay Rum is bright bay rum, not lacking in scent strength.

Ingredients: Distilled Water (Aqua), Stearic Acid, RSPO Palm Oil (Elaeis Guineensis Oil), Potassium Hydroxide, Kokum Butter (Garcinia Indica Seed Butter), Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii Fruit Butter), Fragrance/Essential Oil (Parfum), Vegetable Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Mango Butter (Mangifera Indica Seed Butter), Kaolin Clay

The daily challenge was very convenient. The two razors that I used today are on my "refresh" list. Today was an opportunity to try both in order to see if a refresh was needed. I used the MK-31 for the first pass and the Fili for the second pass. These are both full hollow razors with great steel, though the MK-31 is a bit stiffer. Neither razor really needs a refresh but I'll probably update both of them.

Now that's a razor with a lot of character! I love it! I've seen hollow ground W&B online. I guess they got in on the craze once the Hexe was invented.

For today's theme, this soap contains bison tallow in its Milksteak base.

For today's challenge, I chose to do a 3-pass trifecta shave in reverse order. My progression for today was:

  • Fragrance
  • Aftershave
  • Toner
  • Third pass (lathering, then using my third pass pattern)
  • Second pass (lathering, then using my second pass pattern)
  • First pass (lathering, then using my first pass pattern)
  • Pre-shave - my normal "peoples' preshave" method; working proto-lather into the face with water

I will say that this was, by far, the best shave I've had ... today.

Wonderful luxury shave and as close as I get to a spa day. On this Father's Day, I used Saponificio Varesino which, in fact, is a soap manufacturer that is older than me 🙂

I have a few more shaves in this tub of Black Watch, but it is nearing its end. Wonderful shave, though, pairing the Black Watch trifecta with this Iwasaki razor.

Shaving video

I thought it would be horrible tbh. In reality, though, it was more subtle and interesting.

Rookie Card has quite the goal for its fragrance; attempting to recall regular trips to 7-Eleven for slurpies, candy, and baseball cards. And recalling the aroma of "cheap, minty bubblegum and powdered cardboard".

I liked the soap and the scent, but got none of the nostalgia. I'm in the wrong generation for this.

Accountabilibuddies!
I really like the idea of this challenge, and I love u/Impressive_Donut114's idea of a group soap experience to meet this challenge. I learned of it, not though u/Impressive_Donut114's original PIF, but through u/raymoonie (thanks!). Thanks also go to u/Josiguuh who was able to share some of his smush so that I could participate today.

A group of shavers experiencing a new soap? Well this is what the Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club (BVWSC) is all about! This happens over on sub.wetshaving.social every month! Much thanks to @walden@sub.wetshaving.social for all his administrative efforts over there.

Finally, thanks to u/J33PGuy13 and @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social for including me as part of Operation Moarteen. That was a fun project!

I used to really dislike the weight of this razor. Today it did not bother me at all. Today I'm using a soap brand that I've not seen anyone else use here, but I bet @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social knows of it.

There isn't a SBS soap cover that doesn't make me smile in some way, or that doesn't exude youthful energy. They all make you think that the product inside will be fun. I think they are all exceptional. I just happened to be in the mood for Wood Shop today.

I've complimented him on his work before, but kudos from me to u/wyzeone. Very impressed!

u/EldrormR's MM24 is a work of art in its own way. I'm thrilled to have an example of his work, and I really enjoyed using it today.

The date code for this Aristocrat places it in 1953, still in the throws of the atomic age.

My normal goto for dupes is Stirling. I have a number of the "Man" series soaps and planned to go with Island Man. At the last minute I took a look at Shaving Fragrance Homages and found that Midnight Dreary is a dupe of Tom Ford Black Orchid. I was in the mood for Caties Bubbles anyway.

I have Master Soap Creations "Bloom" soap which is a dupe of the same fragrance, but decided to use Opulence aftershave which a dupe of Layton by Parfums de Marly. I'm double duping today.

As you can see from the cover art, this soap is marketed as a dark spicy barbershop scent.

There once was an old man with a beard,
Who put lather to his face and smeared,
Shaving in more than one direction,
And using a mirror for reflection,
His beard soon disappeared.

Thanks! Probably a one time occurrence.

Moarteen Mailcall (sub.wetshaving.social)

I'll let the pic speak for itself.

This offer is for those who want to take on one, or more, of the straight razor challenges for Austere August. If you are hesitant to participate because your straight isn't shaving well, and you don't want to hone it yourself, or, if you just want someone else to hone your razor, I'll be happy to do it for you -- for free. (But, I don't charge sub.wetshaving.social members anyway.) And, I'll even cover some, or all of your return postage.

This offer is for razor honing only. I don't do razor restoration or repair other than for myself. I'm certain that there is time between now and August for a package to make a round-trip through the US Postal Service in CONUS. If you live elsewhere, just PM me and we can discuss it.

If you're interested in this, please PM me or contact me via Matrix to work out details.

I should add that you can have your choice of finish: synthetic, coticule, Black Arkansas, Black Shadow (a French slate), or Japanese Natural stone. For stainless razors, because of the added chromium in the steel, the safe bet is a synthetic edge.
