And they wonder why we think they're lunatics.

Of all the things to be guilty of these days, that's a pretty decent one.

Yeah, Elon has this idea that he can make WeChat but for places outside of China. An app you're effectively required to have as a means of communication, identification, payment, and whatever else, and he wants to call it "X."

This is the 50s, I think it'd be pretty easy to draw a line from casual racism to white supremacists. A key difference this time is that it's not just Germans led by one insane man, it's instead a bunch of redneck prices and conspiracy theorists.

Checks out, everyone polite moved to Lemmy and Kbin. The few times I've gone back to reddit since coming over here have each reminded me just how vile that place is and I have no regrets leaving.

Fortunately, I hate videocalls and have no reason to use them, so if my friend videocalled me I'd ask what the fuck they were doing and immediately be suspicious.

This is kinda why I wish we had user-level instance blocking, there aren't any popular instances that match my preferred blocklist and I don't want to have to go out and request federation for everything I want to see. For example, the top sites I don't want to see are lemmy.ml, lemmygrad, and exploding-heads, and while beehaw gets all three, they also block instances I don't find problematic like lemmy.world.

So I ended up on lemmy.world and manually block all the stuff I don't want to see, but it'd be loads easier if I could just ask not to be shown content from instances I want to avoid.

I'd argue reddit lost their identity days ago. Several iconic communities and features died with the API slaughter. Now it's just another link aggregator without the things that made reddit unique.

Hi, Tulsan here. Raised in this city as long as I can remember.

Only in the last few years has the Tulsa Race Massacre entered mandatory curriculum, I didn't hear about it until college. When I did hear about it, I also heard that it was purposely censored and historical records of newspapers were missing from libraries and the like. All these fuckers do is deny and pretend bad things didn't happen.

It's our own Tiannamen Square. To reiterate, it's the Tulsa Race Massacre. That has never been disputed. They wanted to lynch a black man and destroyed countless black homes. Please keep talking about this race massacre whenever relevant so that we don't forget it and let the republican disinformation machine claim another casualty.

My old person trait is dislike of video-form social media. I consider blaring my phone speakers at max volume disrespectful to those in my surroundings and generally annoying.

Hence why my social media of choice was reddit and is now lemmy+kbin. It's mostly text posts and images.

Maybe stop visiting a community called reddit???

I don't think so, reddit was so dominant that had they simply not decided to anger all their power users, we'd all still be on there like nothing had changed. A good platform has staying power, I've been on Steam for 16 years and I have no plans of bailing on it because it's simply the best gaming platform I've ever used. It's not game lock-in or anything, most of my games I could buy elsewhere or pirate, I just like having the features and all these other ones popping up like GOG Galaxy still aren't overtaking it despite the good PR.
