Thanks. I'll make sure to not make some and not carry them with me so that I never accidentally drop it next time I see something like this again. I don't know why I never thought of taking this extra care.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Is that what this car is?

I would have some darker wishes for the owner but oil stain is ok.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago

I couldn't find the permit. I imagine if it was visible it would be fine.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago (6 children)

When I went back it was gone.

I just wish I could punish this behavior. The sign was massive, there's plenty of parking spots and there was enough space to park it properly. It just looks like people like this think they have special rights and don't have to do a little extra effort.

Plus I personally hate this kind of people, but mainly because it really looks like it was intentional and he thinks he's above other people needs.

Unrelated, but expected, there was a proudly displayed "Make america great again" red cap on the front, not visible because of the glass reflection. It is so weird how every owner of this kind of car I've seen has the exact personality I would expect. It's just a car, and yet, it's also a personality.

Anyway, there should be a sticker visible on the windshield right? If it is illegal is there a way to report it?

I realize now that I stupidly forgot to include the disabled sign in front of it. So I'm not sure that would be enough proof... Though you can still see the sign on the reflection of the super shiny metal (it's also weird that I've never seen one of those dirty from off road driving).

I just want to thank you. You gave me some new insights.

I'm still not sure if i need to do something about it, the same way that some people live happily being over weight. But the comparison gave me a new understanding of the issue.

I think a better way to put my question is: do you think yo need help? You said ASPD is bad. Do you agree, independently of what others say, that what you are is bad and needs to be fixed?

That's the conflict I still don't know the answer. If those diagnosis are as real as a broken bone, is it a disease that needs healing or a personality trait?

From everything you told me it seems to me you think it is something that needs healing, and you seem to be more rational than I am, so your opinion is being very useful and important. One thing is a "normal" person who has nothing to lose saying we need help, the other is someone else being on this side of the bridge.

I just want the answer to be "no, they are wrong and they just don't like that which is different", but I don't know if my wish is the reality.

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 2 points 2 months ago (4 children)

You have a very admirable take on all these questions. It's hard to believe you have a disorder.

And on that note, do you think you do? From the comments it seems like you agree you have a disorder that needs fixing and is bad, as you put it.

I have a hard time with these diagnostics that seem to change a lot (a broken bone had always been a broken bone and needs healing). How far are things just different perspectives or just different personalities or disorders?

I have many of the same behaviors as people from many "disorders", and also from the same zodiac sign. If I changed them I would just be another person, not necessarily more healthy. And the same with everyone.

I'm not sure what I'm getting at. It's just that you have a much more controversial diagnosis and you seem more mentally stable than the vast majority I hear talking. It makes me question these diagnosis more than I do with myself. But then again, you seem more rational than I am, and with the least socially acceptable diagnosis and you seem to agree with it, so I think it's just me making excuses for my disorder and it all makes sense...

How do you feel about society's view on your diagnosis?

I'm told I may have bpd and I feel horrible about it, I know bpd people are hated and the support are for people who have to deal with them. However everywhere I read your diagnosis is seen as the worst. Basically looks like a name society came up for people they hate.

I'm not sure if my reading is correct. How do you think people see it and how do you feel about it? Do you agree with whatever the general opinion is?

Reading here it seems to be even worse than i thought. If you tell people about they will think you are a murdered/sadist/demon. Just the name they gave you must be harder than whatever symptoms you have...

-And I’ve heard people say Anzac day is dumb for glorifying war.

I say that. And I say people can do whatever they want on this day if they don't think it means anything good. And those who like it do what ever they think they are supposed to do.

But my sure here this is a "dumb opinion".

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 2 points 2 months ago

From what you said, you are giving facebook what they want. They have no reason to block you. You have interacted a lot with the website and for a long time. They have learned much from you and your interests. If your pictures are fake or not it's probably irrelevant to them.

What I'll do, interact with their marketplace, is also in their interest and help them, which makes me hate myself for doing it and I'll limit to only things I absolutely can not find outside of facebook. And I will try to find what I need outside first.

Specially with servers in the US I wouldn't be too hopeful about it. Or at all.

But even if the server is in europe, if I were facebook I would certainly keep a room of backups labeled something else just in case. Unlikely fines in the present and possibly massive profit in the future for whatever reason. Why not? The thing is that no one should expect that info uploaded to the internet can be ever really deleted. There should be campaigns to make people more aware of that. As in "we made these laws to protect you, but the only real protection comes from you".

[–] guismo@aussie.zone 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Here in the united states of the south privacy laws are foreign concepts. But even if we had laws I wouldn't trust it. What's stopping them from making a backup of the data, deleting from the main server and saying "there, I did it"?

To me once the company gets your info, you lost it. But to still receive spam is a problem. I had the same issue with companies here. I would like to at least be removed from their spam list.

I posted this on the facebook lemmy, but I guess there's no one there. So maybe I can get help here.

Where I live (Australia), specially in smaller towns, facebook is a requirement. Gumtree is dead, so any second hand products, room rental and even jobs are done only through facebook.

I tried a few times creating a fake account but quickly they lock my account, even if I don’t use it. I’m not sure how they know my data is fake, but I’d rather smash my face on the wall than giving zuckeberg any personal info.

Is there any way? Any specific things I need to look for when creating an account? I tried using believable names and email, but no luck…

This is hard for me. I absolutely hate facebook and I want it to die. But I have to accept that I’m surrounded by people who don’t care if they are ####### over by an american billionaire, and I have to conform if I want to interact with them. So any help is appreciated.

More specifically, I wanted to find second hand objects, jobs and maybe rent a room. All of which seems to be a facebook only thing, unfortunately.

Also, is there like a proxy website where I can do that without going to the actual facebook? Like youtube, instagram and others have websites like this. But when I search for "facebook proxy" I only find people so desperate to use it that they want to circumvent work or school networks that block it.

Edit: following recommendations, I made an account with a burner number I had here (I have a few usually just in case). I'll update if that still gets me banned. Thanks for all replies!

Edit2: Next day, I'm not banned yet. Phone number is what they want, as I feared. It's what defines you as an individual for them to invest in. It is very sad, but it is what it is.

Anyone wanting to do this, even if you make an account, try as much as you can to find what you need outside and only use it if there's no other option. You are giving them money when you interact with them.

Hi, this community seems to be dead, but I don't know where else to ask, so...

I never paid attention to the newspapers, so I don’t know if it’s always like this.

All defending maximum murder or suffering (through genocide or global warming). What the hell is wrong with this country?

If these are the sources of information of a population it’s not hard to imagine the result. I am really hoping it’s just the rich playing with their toys (the newspapers) the way they like, but that it is not really effective in brainwashing the population. That they question what is fed to them.

Anyway, I just thought it amazing and to share my depression with more people. Maybe that’s just every day news and nothing unusual. I imagine it’s probably all owned by the same zionist or super villain or something.

Since the image can’t be read, the one on the left says that if Australia doesn’t support the international court on netanyahuhaha the country becomes terrorist. The second is the typical “people are not supporting my genocide, I’m being holocausted”. The third is asking for harsher punishment for those “fools” destroying the economy and wasting people’s time with imaginary environment issues that could lead to human extinction.

edit. I posted to lemmy.world by mistake. Lemmy is so confusing... edit2. Is the image showing? It didn't show the first try.

That's the question. I am not very social so I never really talk to other people in their vans, but I get curious about their experience. Here being anonymous seems ok to ask.

I live in one, in case it's not clear. I know there's a lot of people who do the same so maybe there's someone here. Probably not but it's worth a try. There used to be a van dwellers community on reddit, but mostly americans and instagram people.

Final edit: Sorry guys, this got out of hand as I feared and it would take too long to answer everything properly and it would just offend more people.

I got some nice tips for finding places and learned more about Australian's views on the subject. I should have been more careful with what I said. It changed my opinion somewhat but people here would still not like it, so I'll keep it to myself.

Thanks for the very civilized and nice answers and I'm sorry if I didn't answer. I would like to, but in private, or this could become a witch hunt. I do not wish to offend anyone or be attacked because of that. As someone commented, I am the problem here.

Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking for a long time and decided to try to ask something I can’t find out.

First, please be tolerant about the question. I am an Australian citizen, but from a foreign background, so cultural things that seem sacred and unquestionable here are not the same to me. I wouldn’t be crazy to post this on reddit (though I deleted my account ages ago) because I know all the posts would just be attacking me (if you don’t like it, leave, are you defending terrorists?, and so on), instead of helpful comments. Hopefully it will be different here.

The question is: is there any Australian town free from military worship? I mean monuments everywhere, pools and parks named after it and so on. Somewhere I can forget and pretend that this is not how the rest of Australia is.

I’ve been traveling around trying to find a place I would like to settle. I found many small towns I liked, but it seems that the smaller the town, the higher the military worship. They may not even have a public toilet, but they will have a military worship statue that seemed to have cost more than all the town to build.

I love Australia, specially the outback, but the military worship issue is so big that makes me think of looking for another country. I know my taxes are being used to send people to kill whoever the US doesn’t like, and the country prides itself with this history. But if I can ignore that, I can pretend to myself that it’s not true and live happy. I tried to fight the issue for a long time but it makes no difference except to me, sacrificing my well being for nothing. But if I keep being reminded every time I go to do groceries trough the park “invasion of foreign country divine pride park”, it will be impossible. I already try to avoid news and ABC, so it should be possible.

I’m sending a picture of some of the places I’ve been to, without much luck. Funny enough, the town I liked the most, Roma, is the worst, with military trees every 10 meters.

Anyway, that’s it. Maybe I’ll get downvoted to oblivion, but let’s try…

By the way, I don’t know if I am posting this correctly, on the right place and everything. It’s my first lemmy post as well. It's very confusing to know the community to post. It shows everything everwhere!

Edit- I posted this before, thought it was in the wrong place, deleted and posted again. Now I see 2 of the posts and the deleted one has 2 upvotes. This is so confusing...

Edit2 - Before I get any comment, I dislike military worship from any country, not just Australia. Military may or not be necessary in modern societies, but worship and praise should never be acceptable and is specially dangerous when applied to a group with power. Citizens should always be skeptical of their military group, its uses, powers and permissions. It should be like owning a gun. You may be allowed to have one but should be constantly proving you are not doing anything wrong with it. The definition of what is "wrong" or "right" should be constantly questioned as well.

Edit3 - just a reminder, that I do not wish to change anyone's point of view. It's your tradition and culture and I respect, but I don't have to like it and I would like to figure out how to avoid it. It is all. I would like to stop Australian involvment in American wars, but besides that I don't mind if Australians like military or not, but I would like to avoid being exposed to that, assuming that is possible, which is the reason for the post, so I can find out.
