After reading the article I found a link to this gem when I continued scrolling.

It could come down to resources and personnel. Before moving to fedora I used KDE with gento/openrc (systemd was an option, I just wasn't familiar with it). I could only do that because someone or a team of people maintained it. Not every distro will necessarily be able to keep up.

Or maybe they just don't like systemd.

I don't think so. The members only trend is annoying also.

Maybe just the Spanish section.

Live in big city. Public transport helps. We once bought a flat's worth of furniture from IKEA (double bed, three seater couch, tables, chairs and all the smaller items) and wheeled it all home from a few ks away with a gorilla cart. That was fun. When I lived in regional NSW I used to hitch everywhere. The only issue I had with that was carrying too many groceries on my shoulders once and hurting my back. I also got to spend a day delivering eggs and shooting the breeze with a farmer who picked me up. That wouldn't have happened if I had a car and drove everywhere. Didn't seem so solitary at the time.

We moved from Sydney to Adelaide. We don't drive so it slipped my mind that car ferries are a thing and that people live on Islands.

The campaign in Adelaide has shifted from Women Life Freedom to openly supporting Trump, Israel, bombing and invading Iran. They have incorporated the more conservative parts of the Iranian community such as the monarchists while excluding everyone else and any other messaging other than basically please invade. Edit to add that although the messaging is pro-war and supports the monarchy, many Iranians who don't support this still go to the rallies.

They see the kidnapping of Maduro in Venezuela as a sign that Trump can get things done (despite nothing really changing). The argument boils down to 'We are desperate and want Khamenei dead, we know this isn't ideal but we can deal with the ramifications after'. It doesn't help that fears are heightened due to the internet blackout and the media reports of tens of thousands of deaths (which would be extraordinary in such a short time if true).

In Adelaide the organisers have been aggressive to anyone who does not support bombing, invasion etc. So the campaign will be able to bring out thousands of Iranians (there are 5000 apparently) but very few others. None of the other campaigns that want to offer solidarity and support will be able to and already don't feel safe or welcome.

If you search my comment history for bpc-clone there should be instructions for installing it so you can read paywalled sites. It's very useful for education and journalism.

Free buses? Really? Of all the promises that Zohran Mamdani made during his New York City mayoral campaign, that one struck some skeptics as the most frivolous leftist fantasy. Unlike housing, groceries and child care, which weigh heavily on New Yorkers’ finances, a bus ride is just a few bucks. Is it really worth the huge effort to spare people that tiny outlay?

It is. Far beyond just saving riders money, free buses deliver a cascade of benefits, from easing traffic to promoting public safety. Just look at Boston; Chapel Hill, N.C.; Richmond, Va.; Kansas City, Mo.; and even New York itself, all of which have tried it to excellent effect. And it doesn’t have to be costly — in fact, it can come out just about even.

If free buses strike you as wasteful, you’re not alone. Plenty of the beneficiaries would be people who can afford to pay. Does it make sense to give them a freebie? Yes, if it improves the life of the city, just as free parks, libraries and public schools do. Don’t think of it as a giveaway to the undeserving. Think of it as a gift to all New Yorkers in every community. We deserve it.

I just don't know anything about Queensland. I got bashed there once. Spent two weeks laid up in a bed, being dressed and washed by someone else during that time, waiting for the all clear from a doc that my kidneys weren't shot from the assault. I've never thought to think about Queensland or Queenslanders much ever since. When the cops came to interview me they lost interest when I wouldn't corroborate their theory that it was Aboriginal kids that did it. No officer, they were all white and all in flannel shirts.

The larvae of the cheese fly (Piophila casei) are deliberately introduced to pecorino cheese, where their digestive action produces an advanced level of fermentation, including a breakdown of the cheese's fats. The cheese's texture softens, and a liquid called làgrima ('teardrop') may seep out.

"BabaKiueria" was a 1986 made for television movie which showed a role reversal study of the historically inaccurate "plight" of Australian Aborigines in modern Anglo-Saxon society.
