I don't play Legacy but I've always been a big fan of the format. It's very interesting to hear their thoughts on how negatively impactful Grief has been for the format. I think it's frustrating but expected that Wizards delays banning a card from the current active set that they're promoting. They haven't even shipped out Gift Bundles yet (July) so to ban a card from the set before people even receive the product is definitely never happening.
I do think that Grief creates non-games, and I think non-games are truly antithetical to "fun" and fun should be the #1 concern for every game in existence. The fact that they're not banning it means they care more about money than fun.
I think they quietly renamed Historic Brawl to "Brawl" and then Brawl became "Standard Brawl". That's just from what I've seen online but I don't if that's formal or anything.
It makes sense but I still don't like it. Viashino Sandstalker is one of my most beloved cards!
This is both disgusting and amazing at the same time lol. That second* game against 5c Atraxa felt so good watching Seth win. I don't know why but I was loving every minute of it.
9 wraths in standard is a horrible mistake and 1 of many reasons why I'm not really interested in standard right now.
I completely agree. This is just sad. It's tough having all this excitement around a new format like Timeless, Khans in Arena etc and then have constant news about Hasbro killing WoTC from within. If WoTC is what Hasbro keeps squeezing to keep their dying company alive, I don't how Wizards survives.
At some point Hasbro will be losing so much money that Magic/DnD won't be able to keep them afloat and at that point I don't know what they can do. Selling WoTC would only help in the short term and ultimately be better for the game/players, but it would be corporate suicide. Continuing to squeeze Wizards further and further seems to be their only plan. And continuing to squeeze it will bring further cuts to departments that don't bring "immediate revenue" but are necessary for the longevity of the game and player experience. Like the card and set design teams, support teams, player/pro/streamer outreach teams, etc. We'll probably continue to see a doubling down on product releases and Universes Beyond set releases, a steady increase in the price of booster packs and sealed product, and a worsening and worsening of the cards we see printed.
In the (distant) future it may even hit a point where the new cards as so powerful and power creep is so large that it turns players away entirely. They could be in a position where they have to keep pushing further and further with no way or no desire to go back. I swear, I think they're one alternative new CCG/TCG away from total failure.
This is cool, kind of like Dark Omnath in a weird way. They're both 4/4s for 4 but instead of landfall Vito utilizes permanent sacrifice.
November 2โ14: Historic All Access, Basically No Bans!
Can't wait to get back in there. I have some new brews and I can't wait to make a thread for them later ๐
I really wish they would turn this into a permanent queue but I can see why they don't.
I also agree that consolidating from 4 to 2 packs is a good move. One comment in the Youtube video was interesting though, and they mentioned that increasing the number of uncommons will make an already difficult task in collecting every uncommon even more difficult. It will also have a more profound impact on draft than I think people are aware of but that we obviously have to wait and see.
This is from 2020 but probably still holds now:
That image shows the stats, but it's:
Pretty surprising how much more of an edge it gives you in constructed vs. limited.

What I see is them asking $270 (!!!) for 120 cards. 12 boosters of 10 cards each, for $270 is just insanity to me. Right out of the gate you're spending $2.25 per CARD. The first and last collector booster box I ever opened was for Neon Dynasty and even those 12 packs felt bad given the cost. I remember trying to stretch it out over two days. This feels even worse for the same exact price and I just cannot understand who is paying it.
