I don't know what sort of info these guys have beforehand, but I have to imagine they get info on how far away various points they are covering are, and those rooftops would definitely be an area they should be watching. This is pure speculation on my part, but given that they are counter-sniping on protection detail instead of sniping on an assassination mission, I would suspect that they have their scope sighted in to a specific distance and then use the mil-dots on the scope to adjust for distance and wind. That would be the quickest way for them to cover multiple targets at various distances. Assuming these guys are elite military sharpshooters, they can adjust their scopes much faster than your normal civilian, though, so maybe they are adjusting on the fly.
Yes, but the counter-sniper is looking in that direction well before the first shot. It's possible that he was scanning some other part of the area and missed the shooter, but military-trained snipers tend to fire with both eyes open so that they maintain peripheral vision and are able to assess other threats in their view. The most probably answer to this is just that the Secret Service isn't nearly as good/sophisiticated as we thing, but I will still maintain skepticism.
It's not likely. The rifle would have to have been sabotaged in some manner. The only way I can think of setting this up so that he doesn't get killed is if the scope is intentionally off. If the estimates I've seen are right, and the shooter was ~400 ft from Trump, the scope would have to be about 3+ MOA off center for the shooter to think aim is dead center but actually be off. Still really high risk. The counter sniper watching that area would have to be in on it, too. Also I don't think Trump would be in on it.
I have lots of theories right now, but one of them is that if it was a patsy, the patsy was given a rifle with a scope that was purposefully sighted in incorrectly. Really weird the the video seems to show a secret service sniper behind Trump seemingly looking directly at the roof where the shooter was before the shot.
Also trying to understand why the shooter waited until Trump was looking towards their direction. First is that they trained on shooting a headshot target of Trump and were reflexively waiting for him to turn, second is that theu wanted to see Trump's face when they shot him, third is that the secret service actually hit they before they got their first shot off.
The juxtaposition between him getting shot at and going to a UFC event versus Biden being hidden away except for "special" events is going to be too much. Dudes gonna be jacked up off of surviving an assassination attempt, too. We are gonna get vintage Trump, I think.
