I too wish the developer would respond, but I don't think this is the catastrophe people are making it out to be. One comment seems to explain why these binaries are included:

Because ventoy supports shim, and by extension secure boot, these files needs to come from a signed Linux distro. In this case they are taken from Fedora releases, and OpenSUSE apparently, as they publish shim binaries and grub binaries signed by their certificate.

One thing the article doesn't mention, is Caitlin Clark's place as a white woman in a sport dominated by black athletes, and the segment of her fans that she might eventually have to disown. For example, there's an under-current of racism in the drama between her and Angel Reese.

Sue Bird had similar experiences but a generation or so earlier. Of course, there was less social media when she was a young player, and a lot less focus of women's basketball. Even still, there was a lot of dog-whistle language about how, "she played the game the right way," or how, "she's an upstanding citizen." Of course, Bird eventually came out which made some of those fans leave on their own.

And it's not like it contains any sensitive information. I'm sure all your emails are just friendly correspondence with your pen pal.

They probably don't work for Amtrak?

It feels like their rules are if your part minority, you're a minority (which is how society treats people). However, you can only be a maximum of one minority in each category. Harris can be a women, but she can't be both Indian and Black.

This is the one that always gets me about "small government" people. They talk about inefficiencies and say, "the private sector can do it better," which is debatable because comparing money and service is subjective (IMHO, they're still wrong, but that's besides the point). Yet most of them don't want to properly fund tax administrators, when time and time again, they've shown they're a money multiplier. If you want a more basic, striped down tax code, I once again disagree, but fine, that's your opinion. However, in our current tax system enforcement is underfunded, and I think it just shows their true intent to enrich the wealthy.

The dad went into the house, and when he returned to the car between 30 and 60 minutes later

This is the part that really confuses me, they were home. I get that parents sometimes need a break from their kid but:

  1. You're home, so take your kid inside and then you go somewhere else.
  2. 30 to 60 minutes?!? I can understand taking 10 minutes (which is still a dangerous amount of time) but WTF was going on for 30 to 60 minutes.

I know it's not the point of the article, but I'm also annoyed at the idea of someone intending to run their car for 30-60 minutes for no reason. I will admit I've left my car running just for the comfort of A/C while I'm waiting, and I don't live in Arizona heat, but dude was home.

I know this seems like Niantic is free-loading, but this is intentionally-allowed by the ODbL license and honestly, might be a good business decision even without considering the licensing fees. OSM is almost 20 years old and as a community led project, is probably more predictable and stable than a Google license which could change drastically from one contract to the next.

As a OSM contributor, I'm more than happy to see my work used this way, and as @QuadratureSurfer@lemmy.world pointed out, OSM has seen a lot of benefit too.

“The Bible is clear, and the history of Christendom broadly is clear, that it’s the church’s responsibility to meet the needs of the poor and to ensure that people have the services that they need to live flourishing lives,” Conzatti said.

Besides just the practical craziness of the idea that you have to belong to a church to get social services, I don't think the Bible makes it clear at all that social services are the church's responsibility and not the state's.

I'm not sure he's "learned" anything. Good article otherwise!

We'll no longer comment on hearsay, unsubstantiated claims, or baseless accusations from The Verge. We'll be in touch as corrections are needed.

Setting aside the ridiculousness of this position, the statement also doesn't make sense at face value, right? I think I understand what they're trying to say, but aren't those two sentences in conflict? Isn't getting "in touch as corrections are needed" literally making "comment on hearsay, unsubstantiated claims, or baseless accusations"?
