You might want to stick to young adult stuff. It will have less objectionable content, I think. As for a real suggestion try Sabriel by Garth Nix and if you like it there are others in the series.

Very sad. There has to be better ways to control rodent populations that would not harm other wildlife.

Seems like there is no good solution to this situation.

Flaco update this morning. Cities are full of hazards for birds of prey. It was nice to think of Flaco being free and living his best life, but he would have been safer in the zoo. I still can’t say that seems like the better option. The enclosures for owls always seem so small in zoos.

I never thought about this! So interesting to think of owls contributing to the fossil record (ish) through pellets.

This would be really nice. ❤️

I loved reading about Flaco this past year. There were so many great pictures of an owl in the big city. 🦉 🌃

Agreed. His story was inspiring and it is not the end I would wish for any bird. Sadly, too many die in this way.

Sad news this morning. I know he faced many dangers in NYC, but had hoped he’d survive. 😢

Here is an article from The New York Times about a Eurasian Eagle Owl that escaped a zoo and was living in Central Park. Lots of great photos!

I love this! ❤️

Blue Jays are like a gang in my yard. I love them, but they like to scare the other birds away from the feeders and then throw a bunch of seed on the ground looking for the right one. Sigh.

Hopefully she will make a full recovery and be able to be released back into the wild. There are some owls at my local nature center that are now permanent residents due to their injuries not healing properly to survive without human intervention. The center calls the owls (and other such animals) their “wildlife ambassadors” and show them in informational talks/ educational field trips.

I’m not sure I’d want to get hit. Cool story to tell, but probably scary and potentially painful.

Cool animals though. See how great Snowy Owl is? 😉 if only I’d thought to post propaganda like this a few days ago. I guess there’s always next year.

This was very generous of you! Pretty cool to have the superbowl lemmy community on a plaque, too. 😏

This look! So judgy, lol.

I’m sad Snowy lost, but WFS is truly a superb owl.

Thanks for running this. It was a lot of fun and something to look forward to each day.

I had to vote Elf Owl, but Powerful Owl might have the coolest name of any owl!
