While that is true, the missing part is the following. As I understand registration process in zone .ru / .рф is done by a russian legal entity (Coordination Center for TLD RU) and under the jurisdiction of russian courts. As a citizen of Russia I can say that russian courts are far away from the Rule of Law and under the strong pressure of russian government. So, even if the actual website may be hosted anywhere, russian court may make a decision to take back a registration and, theoretically, the row in DNS may be replaced (the link will be the same but may tend to a different, potentially unsafe hosting). That is the risk that I see.

What android application supports RCS except Google Messages? So, for me it is not about "allowing iOS users communicate with Android users", but about allowing communications between iMessage users and Google Messages users.

Automatic AI-powered screen lock for when your phone is snatched. Theft Detection Lock is a powerful new feature that uses Google AI to sense if someone snatches your phone from your hand and tries to run, bike or drive away.

Does it mean, that "Google AI" will running 24/7 in background, measuring how I use my phone, with an access to accelerometers data and location data?

That is absolutely crazy. I wish the strength to go through that for Alexey Pertsev!

I have my personal blog, made with Hugo and hosted on GitHub pages. Initially I did not turn on any kind of web tracking / web analytics, because I do not like tracking at all. But I want to make my blog better and to achieve it, I need a feedback loop about traffic. For example, what are the most popular publications, or how many people view my blog from mobile devices, etc.

So, my question is, what is the most appropriate (ot the less evil) way to track a web traffic?

An answer "there is no good way to do it without breaking user's privacy" is acceptable too, I did not decide yet turning on the analytics. Instead I'm interested in an opinion of the community.

Thanks in advance!

tldr: Green transition, like switching to electric vehicles and use renewable energy sources, requires a huge amount of minerals. One of the main sources of these minerals is African continent. Researchers found big overlapp of that mining with areas of big apes. Almost 200.000 of apes are in a risk area, based on the estimation:

We estimated that more than one-third of the entire great ape population in Africa—nearly 180,000 individuals—could be directly or indirectly threatened by mining now and in the near future. Apes in West Africa could be most severely affected, where up to 82% of the population currently overlaps with operational and preoperational mining locations and their 50-km buffers

Another problem is that mining companies working there are not pay attention to ecological consequences of their business:

only 5% of the 400 assessed companies had carried out science-based nature and biodiversity impact assessments of their operations and business models

In the Russian region of Astrakhan, near the Caspian Sea, the regional government has approved spending 224 million rubles (~2.5 million EUR) to kill stray dogs. According to the new law, dogs caught on the streets will be placed in temporary shelters for only 15 days and then killed. When the same government rejected the proposal of the program to catch dogs for permanent placement in shelters, they argued that there was not enough money in the regional budget. But now, when the new program to kill dogs was approved, money was immediately found. Many local volunteers say that the regional government is in tight connection with the interests of the company that won the tender to kill the dogs. And they sabotaged all other options, for example, in 2019 they failed to spend even 70% of the money for the sterilization program. In 2022 all the money was sent to the private company, which did almost nothing. Some managers of this company were sentenced to prison, but the money was gone and the beneficiaries escaped punishment. This is how corruption and human greed kill innocent dogs.

But is there any plans to support GNU Linux distros, like Debian or Nix? From the first look the browser is only for Serenity.

Imo, it is a kind of trade-off between speech of freedom and easy automation/integration and all this spam. I'm ok with it, just a couple of marks in settings (like only my contacts can send me messages). If one wants to have a spam-free space, they can go to Facebook Messages or something like this. I can not imagine how Telegram can fight all this spam without hiring a lot of moderators like Facebook. Even to hire moderators, Telegram needs to change the business model and start selling user data for advertising.

The hotel was designed by Ivan Štraus, one of the most famous architects of former Yugoslavia (Museum of Aviation in Belgrade, Bosnia Electric Power Buiilding in Sarajevo and others). The building was opened in 1983. During the Bosnian War it was damaged and was restored in the modern time following the original project. It looks like it is one of the most famous example of Yugoslavian modernism in Sarajevo.

emacs + elfeed

Reasons:

  1. I'm using emacs for almost everything, so it it is a quite obvious choice
  2. Links to rss/atom are stored in a plain human readable org-mode file that you can edit manually or use VCS on top
  3. It works fine from both terminal and gui
  4. It is a fully OSS solution under The Unlicense

  • Recommended tires: 35+ mm or MTB;
  • Link to the routeplanner;

Try to switch to console (ctr alt f2) and run xsession via startx. Or just try to install some meta package from console, like gnome-desktop (like sudo apt install gnome-desktop)

Anyway console (tty) is all what you have now and it should be rnough for restoring the system.

Has anyone cycled through Bosnia and Herzegovina? I'm planning my next solo trip and I'm thinking of going from Belgrade to Sarajevo, crossing the border at Bajina Basta Water Power Plant one way, after visiting Sarajevo it looks like I can cross the border at Bijelina. Most of the videos on YouTube are about cycling back through Croatia, but this is not an option for me due to visa restrictions... The whole route (~700km with +-8500m of altitude difference) looks like an interesting challenge and a great opportunity to get to know BiH.

But I have a lot of general questions about road quality, driver culture in relation to cyclists, water accessibility, etc. I'm also worried about the mountains near Sarajevo: from the border to Sarajevo and from Sarajevo to Tuzla. How good are these mountain roads for cycling? Is it possible to zigzag on the most difficult climbs?

Thanks in advance!

Telecommunication tower built in 1965 according to the project of Uglješa Bogunović, Slobodan Janjić and Milan Krstić. Destroyed in an air raid in 1999, rebuilt according to the original project in 2010. One of the most famous examples of Yugoslavian Brutalism in architecture. A photo of the tower was included in the exhibition "Toward a concrete Utopia: Architecture in Yugoslavia, 1948-1980", organized at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2018. This exhibition opened Yugoslavian modernist architecture to the world.

Thank you. I hope too. But now it is not safe to be being in Russia and trying to get better government... So, for myself I just decided to leave the country. I'm not ready to risk my safety and safety of my family trying to protest against Putin. One can say that I'm a coward, but for me it change nothing: I prefer to be a healthy free coward instead of tortured hero in prison. To be honest, my only hope is that he die soon, there are a lot of rumors about his health problem, some cancer.

As a russian I can say that Putin is definitely crazy. He always was crazy a littlw due to his KGB past, you know, some tendency to overestimate impact of special servies and conspiracy. But I guess that the last drop was a covid pandemic when he sitted alone in bunker for a year in a total isolation. He totally out of mind. I do not think that one should seriously look at his speeches. Also, as a native russian speaker I watched a video interview and can proove that the translation is cirrect. He really said it...
