Just found out that "the world's poorest president", Jose Mujica from Uruguay, was an avowed Marxist guerrilla who was tortured and imprisoned for 14 years during the military dictatorship years. I first heard about him when Reddit fawned over him donating his presidential salary and driving his '87 vw beetle from his farm to work every day. Somehow they didn't mention how his ideological beliefs made him such a down to earth guy. He died a few months ago. Rip to a real one
