They have their Canon Event, they become obsessed with avenging it, they end up under the wing of some Batman or other, the villains do the intervention, the Robin blames Batman for allowing them to fight crime so young...
and a decade or so later they put it together that Batman set the whole thing up.

The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements is a non-fiction book authored by the American social philosopher Eric Hoffer. The usual standard with apes seems to be sign language, and none of them have been able to use it to the standard of human children once you peel back the wishful thinking of certain researchers. They can learn words, they can use words to get things, but they can't make the jump to grammar.
