Oh man, my oldest brother put this on when our parents were out and all I remember is being terrified of the eyeball in the guy's palm at some point. Probably my first experience with body horror.

The Rescuers wasn't exactly one of my favorites growing up, but it still made it into my rotation from time to time. It cracks me up how into the performance these two get at this part of the Rescue Aid Society song. Go get em, Latvia and France!

Seam (pronounced "Shawm") is my favorite Deltarune character. Everything about him, from his design to his dialogue to his lore, tells you that this old stuffed cat has been through some things. Despite clearly having come out the worse for wear from his experiences, he maintains a sense of positivity - almost a gleeful nihilism. I always got the impression that he actually cares a bit more than he lets on.

I just could not figure out what to do with his mouth to make it not look quite so flat. Overall, this one was a lot tougher than I thought it'd be.

The Sheriff of Nottingham was that character I loved to hate. He could be so sleazy and it was hilarious watching all the townsfolk react when he'd show up pretending to be likeable. His design and voice acting made him one of my favorite characters in the movie.

The character Vivi from Final Fantasy IX, tied with Steiner as my favorites in that game (so cool that they can combo attack together!). Hands are hard, but I'm proud of the "shading" on the knobbly staff! I also think the thicker 2pt lines look better than the 1pt lines I've been using in the past.

As per usual while I'm still in this learning stage, I used a reference image.

Thanks, it's really fun to draw with and I get my nostalgia fix during the process.

My attempt to use MacDraw II to draw (copycat) the popular image of Calvin's "Tracer Bullet" alter-ego from Calvin & Hobbes. I wanted some practice with the neat shadow technique.

I've been raging lately about the fact that when you put most devices into sleep mode, they begin blinking incessantly. So much for me actually getting any sleep.

I feel like Dawson and, to a lesser degree, Tyson, go looking for high-fives for dunking on the dumbs, which doesn't do well at spreading an appreciation for science to those who need it.

Sagan and Feynman seemed to have a much humbler yet more effective way of helping people realize how amazing science can be if they'd just take some time to think about things and question what they believe they know.

All great minds in any case.

Happy Carl Sagan Day!

Boy, the trees are really sneezing today.

You got further than I've ever gotten trying to fix anything car-related. Good job! I feel like technology's in such a complicated place at this point that nobody's expected to be able to handle every single step of every situation on their own. You did awesome.

When I say I'm tired of working for a living I don't mean that I don't want to work, I meant that I don't want to work for other people doing something I don't care about so someone I don't care about can better achieve something I don't care about just so they pay me money for it. I'm happy to work when that goes directly goes toward my own well-being and that of my family and local community. I just get so tired of doing work that I have no personal investment in beyond "it makes me money so I can then give that money to other people."

So I play Rimworld and dream of what it would be like to have a role in a small community where everyone does their part for the direct benefit of the community and it isn't all just about money.

Every time I see the little "new content" blip next to someone I've subscribed to and it ends up being a short, I feel cheated.

That makes sense, thank you for the insight.

What's with the the fact that some words are randomly bolded?

[-] whelk@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

Yesterday evening I was feeling the same way, so I started blocking users that are clearly posting inflammatory or aggressively brigadey content (note: not to be confused with things I don't agree with. It's about tone and tact, not content), or things that I find annoying to see over and over like the same trollish meme and emoji images. After only an evening of doing that, my Lemmy experience has been worlds better. I did notice a particular instance being the trend which makes me look forward to instance blocking, though at the moment I'd prefer to still do so on an individual user basis.
