This is the first review that the Mad Watch Collector has done on a Casio ProTrek watch. The review is a very positive consideration of the upcoming Casio ProTrek PRW35LD. While I'm not a Pro Trek kind of consumer, I did find his follow-up comment about its price rather provocative. While displaying the Casio LF-20, he mentions:

  • "The obvious signs that Casio have been dumbing down their budget watches if you want to see the best Casio have to offer you got to pay a bit more."*

Not sure how clued-in the Mad Watch Collector is as far as Casio is concerned. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, it's definitely concerning to hear how Casio corporate might be tinkering with the beloved budget Casio line of watches.

Alex Leanse (MotorTrend associate editor) sports a Casio Royale with a custom forest green NATO strap. He has the good taste to walk us through a comprehensive tour of the imminently customizable by design Slate EV Truck. All the while, the 6'10" host flexes his Casio Royale to emphasize his style and DIY props.

The collection started off innocently enough when I found the Casio W-201 on the ground outside a bar back in the late 1990's. The strap was broken and sticky. I asked around to see if it belonged to anyone to no avail. So I stowed it away after removing the broken strap. The W-201 stayed quietly in my watch box for over 25 years.

Amazon had a Xmas sale back in 2021 and I picked up the Casio W800H-1AV for $13 as a stocking stuffer for me and my kids.

Recently my kids went on school trips to DC and were prohibited from taking any internet-connected devices. So we dug up our old point-and-shoot cameras and sent them with their digital timepieces for alarms and whatnot.

Round about the time of the most recent class trip, I dug out the old Casio W-201 and was shocked to see that the battery was still working. Even more shocking: the time was still right! That inspired me to take to the Casio subreddit where I found plenty of strap watch band replacement suggestions and tips. I found a replacement strap on AliExpress for $1. It's as good as new now!

The Casio AE1200WH (aka "The Casio Royale") I purchased with a gift card on sale a couple weeks ago after perhaps too much time perusing of the addictive Casio subreddit. The watch is a treasure for $20 though. It's packed with features. It looks great on the wrist. And there's quite an appetite for mods out there for this model as well. I really love it.

The subreddit is also where I found out about the Casio W800H mod that adds the countdown timer and 5 alarms. My son and I did that mod together. Very fun stuff!

I got the G-Shock DW-5600UE over the weekend. I never had a G-Shock and decided to use up the rest of my gift card on one.

The subreddit is a wonderful place to escape the dreadful news of the day. I decided to try and muster up a similar community here on the Fediverse with Lemmy. Hope there are plenty of other Casio enthusiasts out there.
