This House Has People in It is analog horror short film directed by Alan Resnick and transmitted on Adult Swim in the 2016. The film is known for its surreal and unsettling narrative: It unfolds through the lens of surveillance cameras in a suburban home during a birthday party, revealing bizarre and disturbing events involving a family. The central plot revolves around the teenage daughter, Madison, who appears to be in a state of distress, lying face-down on the kitchen floor...

One of the most interesting aspects is that the short film is not just a standalone piece of fiction; rather, it serves as the starting point for a more complex series of internet puzzles featuring codes and multiple videos to discover online. I strongly suggest to anyone interested to check the NightMind video for a complete and clear narrative.

First off, what is analog horror? They’re horror films, shorts, or videos in general done in the style of old VHS, Beta, or other pre-digital formats. Sometimes they can look like an old camcorder view of some phenomena, like The Blair Witch Project. Most of the time, they look like old news broadcasts, informational videos, or local area warnings.

They became particularly popular in the 2010s, inspired by old horror specials like Ghostwatch or actual TV signal hijackings like the Max Headroom Incident. The combination of cryptic messages, visual distortions, and bizarre imagery can leave viewers’ skin crawling, particularly when they watch these famous examples of the genre.

Local 58 paints the story of a bizarre, and terrifying invasion through the lens of a local television channel. Although it isn’t very long, this series makes a big impact due to the near-jumpscare quality of its darker content, and the refreshingly diverse mediums it uses.

While there’s no doubt that the Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror subgenre is common, Local 58 stands out by showing just enough to scare viewers while keeping them hooked on the unknown. Even though the danger isn’t clearly stated, the constant warnings to not look at the night sky are enough to make anyone feel uneasy.

After countless doctor visits and multiple second opinions, the Daniels find themselves hoping that renowned local child therapist, Julia Luu, can help their daughter. Still, to succeed, the young doctor will have to decipher Jess’s only form of communication—her eerie drawings. However, as she digs deeper into these macabre images, she will discover that the monsters under the house aren’t nearly as scary as the monsters that put them there.

The series is known for its immersive storytelling, chilling voice acting, and the use of unsettling children's drawings. Fans praise it as one of the best analog horror series, with the creator being described as exceptionally kind and talented.

(...)Folklore is a term that encapsulates not only stories, but history, arts, crafts, and even ways of living among tight-knit communities in rural settings, and in some cases urban and especially in digital spaces most recently. Although we are in an age where superstitions are bowing out in favor of a hyper logical, materialistic worldview and an “always online” mindset, human curiosity still wanders to the strange and sometimes dark for entertainment. Internet commentators often dub “creepypastas”1 as a form of “internet folklore” due to their campfire story-like nature, but as of late they seem to have taken a backseat to more complex tales usually told through online video mediums—these being Analog Horror series.

I first became aware of this horror subgenre via an analysis of the series LOCAL58TV, which is composed of news broadcasts from an alternate timeline. Each episode reveals horrific truths about the world it takes place in until it ends with a terrible revelation that dooms humanity. LOCAL58 does not have a conventional cast of characters like most stories, but rather subjects the audience to the horrors just as if they were people in the world it is portraying. It is subtle, chilling and comes and goes with little announcement or fanfare—it just leaves the audience in quiet shock as they must try and piece together what they just saw. It gives enough information for viewers to get a sense of what is going on, but it never explains anything just as quality horror should. (...)

This one seriously creeps me out. The man in the suit is a series of video about an actor who becomes increasingly obsessed with the Godzilla suit he wears, he exhibits strange behaviors, including prolonged periods of stillness and altered breathing. Eventually, crew members discover that the man body has grotesquely merged with the suit and he is no longer human.

Godzilla may be a monster, but it seems to me otherwise. He is rather a god. Control our world according to each order. And I will be the flesh of the beast. I will be the host of Godzilla. Because I want to be a god who is respected by people. I want to be the flesh of this beast. And the fear of which one is wrong. I'm not a movie monster. It's Goji. The law of good and evil. I will live in this beast. Because he is the only one who can help us.

There is no God. Just me. Goji.

Analog Horror - Found Footage

Analog horror can be seen as a descendant of creepypasta and found footage films. It draws inspiration from earlier works like The Blair Witch Project and The Ring, which utilized similar themes of manipulated media and unsettling narratives. The genre gained traction with the success of Local 58, No Through Road, and Gemini Home Entertainment. It is characterized by its use of low-fidelity visuals, cryptic messages, and a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of late 20th-century television and analog media, often set between the 1960s and 1990s
