Time for another annual recap since our previous post: https://lemmy.mods4ever.com/post/454

If you don't know what Deus Ex Randomizer is, here's the trailer from v3.0 which gives an overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3mTcG6xeq4&list=PLZIQTa_kwZhBksj7UzcahPiRaHk87fWch&index=1

In the past year we've released v3.6, v3.6.1, v3.6.6.6, v3.6.7, v3.7, v3.7.1, and v3.8. We've been doing less frequent but larger updates, but still pushing out alpha/beta versions frequently in our Discord. When someone reports a bug we usually fix it quickly.

Some of the biggest additions in the past year:

  • New game mode: Serious Rando. No memes, all Rando. This includes randomization of important goal locations, similar to Full Rando, but it excludes the silly ones and has memes disabled by default. Full list of game modes wiki page.
  • Improved pool ball physics. This is great in combination with bingo.
  • Many improvements for Revision, GMDX, and Vanilla? Madder. support.
  • Halloween 2
    • Two new stalkers: Weeping Anna and Bobby.
    • New game mode: Mr. Page's Horrifying Bingo Machine. The Halloween version of Mean Bingo Machine. Play through the whole game, but you must complete a bingo line before being allowed to progress to the next mission. Once you get to the next mission, you are given a new bingo board! Now featuring Halloween stalkers and zombies.
    • Improvements to the Fixed/Limited saving modes. These are actually great outside of the Halloween modes, for players who want to kick the save-scumming habit. Wiki page.
  • New password randomization styles! By default, passwords will now be randomized by picking a few words from word lists instead of purely random letters and numbers. In theory these passwords should be a bit easier to remember if not using autofill, as well as simply being more "fun".
  • New game mode: Mr. Page's Nice Bingo Machine. You must complete a bingo line before being able to progress to the next mission. But this one is without goal location randomization. Good for learning bingo.
  • New Game Presets: skip the complicated menus and just choose one of our most popular ways to play.
  • New game mode: Speedrun Shuffle. Like Speedrun Mode, but also the mission order is shuffled! You will get a selection of about 3 to 5 missions, targeting a playtime of under 1 hour. Look at the splits to see which missions you drew, and see if you can beat the par time!
    • We will be starting a tournament for Speedrun Shuffle in July! Keep an eye on our YouTube and/or Discord!
  • And many smaller improvements and bug fixes!

We also had a few tournaments: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZIQTa_kwZhDZjz905W-hpORQ4S1Rj3a6

Major Changes

  • New game mode: Speedrun Shuffle! This is the same as Speedrun Mode, but you only play a few missions, in random order.
    • You will get a selection of about 3 to 5 missions, targeting a playtime of under 1 hour. Look at the splits to see which missions you drew, and see if you can beat the par time!
    • We will be starting a tournament for Speedrun Shuffle in July! Keep an eye on our YouTube and/or Discord!
  • Significant fixes and improvements to GMDXv9 Randomizer!
  • Fixes to support Vanilla? Madder! 2.0

GMDXv9 Changes

  • Enable "Flickering Lights" setting
  • Enabled "Goal Textures" setting to allow adjusting the textures on some randomized goal computers for better visibility.
  • Augbots will now properly show with their blue skin and will glow red by default.
  • Medical Bots will now properly count their number of uses.
  • The window for recharging at a Repair Bot now properly updates the bio energy bar immediately.
  • The value of the Stealth skill is now shown in a more interpretable format (based on your walk speed).
  • More useful descriptions of the randomized values of the "EMSP" (Dash) and "Energy Transference" augs are now shown.
  • Beheaded corpses that are trying to zombify will no longer cause error messages, but will also no longer try to be reanimated. Zombie rules say that if the head is gone, they can't come back.
  • Scripted grenades that get thrown into vents will not be set off by Aggressive Defense System before being thrown.
  • Minor randomized goal location adjustments to account for items or geometry in GMDX maps that aren't present in vanilla maps.
  • Hardcore settings become unlocked when you finish the game.
  • Upgrades to the EUAS (IFF) aug will actually display on screen (Light level and environmental hazard warnings).
  • Map tweaks will no longer sometimes unintentionally receive tweaks intended for the Revision versions of the maps.
  • Weapons with alternate ammo types that fire projectiles (like the mini crossbow) will have their firing rate randomized based on the original firing rate.
  • GEP guns that were received from conversations or from crates will no longer float inside of you after moving to a new level.
  • Fixes when using the scope on the GEP gun:
    • The regular scope overlay will no longer be drawn over top of the rocket view.
    • The scope will close after each shot, even if you have multiple shots in the clip.
    • The GEP gun will not force a reload after every scoped shot if you have multiple shots in a clip.
    • The FOV of the game will not get stuck in a zoomed in state after firing a scoped GEP shot with "Weapon Auto Reload" disabled.
  • Computers will maintain their original security levels (determining whether or not you are allowed to hack them without a NUKE virus).
  • All payphones can now be interacted with like a regular phone (Primarily for bingo purposes).
  • GMDX Map Fixes:
    • The first conversation with Paul (Mission 1) is no longer skipped. Instead, the option to get the free weapon from him is stitched out of the conversation (like in Vanilla Rando), and you can still speak with him to get the map of the island.
    • Doors on medbot crates on Liberty Island (Mission 1) are removed properly when medical bots are randomized.
    • Gate near the top of the dock on Liberty Island (Mission 1) is now opened as appropriate (basically always).
    • A random wooden pallet on Liberty Island (Mission 1) can no longer be highlighted like a door.
    • The police boat in Battery Park (Mission 2) is now easier to highlight and speak to. This makes it easier to take the boat back to HQ after destroying the generator.
    • Removed lasers that were originally attached to patrolling robots just before the Airfield Helibase (Mission 3) that got left floating in the air after enemy locations were randomized.
    • Trying to send the signal at NSF HQ (Mission 4) without aligning the dishes first will cause Paul to call you and tell you the dishes need to be aligned first.
    • Successfully sending the signal at NSF HQ (Mission 4) when goal randomization is enabled will cause Walton Simons to immediately call you and make the troopers hostile.
    • The button behind the Flight Deck door in the Hong Kong Helibase (Mission 6) now actually opens the flight deck door instead of a vent in the barracks.
    • Added an exit button to the Hong Kong Helibase barracks (Mission 6).
    • Boxes near the end of Versalife Level 2 Labs (Mission 6) will no longer be randomized to prevent softlocks when unmovable items are randomized into those locations.
    • Datacube added with the Lucky Money (Mission 6) security computer login details will no longer be able to randomize into the locked store/apartment off the side of the mall.
    • Freezer door in the Lucky Money (Mission 6) is properly attached to the button added inside the freezer as well as the security computer on the meeting room desk.
    • UNATCO Troops in the streets of Mission 8 will now start out of the world and will appear as riot cops die (This matches the vanilla behaviour of this mission).
    • Smugglers bots in Mission 8 are no longer permanently hostile when Moderate Map Balance changes are enabled. They will only be hostile if you have not spoken to Smuggler before this mission.
    • Some inaccessible items in the Paris Cathedral (Mission 11) will no longer be randomized.
    • Teleporter to exit Vandenberg Tunnels (Mission 12) is now placed in the correct location.
    • Tiffany Savage is now fearless, so she won't try to run out into an active firefight while you try to save her (Mission 12).
    • The "Jump! You can make it!" infolink in Area 51 has a larger radius (to match the size in vanilla, making it more likely to play when you're on top of the vent).

Minor Changes

  • NPCs will now react to projectiles regardless of whether they're immune or not if "Glitches for Speedruns" is set to "Allowed"
  • When the "Camera Mode" is set to "Third Person", the camera will now shake when heavy enemies (such as Military Bots) walk near you.
  • More interesting camera angles when talking to The Merchant (or Le Merchant).
  • "Use x Rebreathers" bingo goal will only be available in Mission 3 when Entrance Randomization is enabled.
  • "Invert Mouse" Crowd Control effect will now properly restore your mouse controls if you load a save made during the effect after the effect ends.
  • Teleporters between maps will now properly show whether the destination map is mirrored or not (The arrow in the icon will point left for mirrored maps, or right for normal maps).
  • The Crowd Control setting in the Randomizer Setup or Advanced Settings pages will now be automatically enabled if Crowd Control connects to the game while in those menus.
  • Barrels will no longer play their push sound forever after being pushed once.
  • Crowd Control effects will no longer sometimes set off grenades planted by the player.
  • Randomly spawned "SecurityBot4" (The treaded bot with yellow shoulders) will now use a modified texture with gray shoulders instead. In GMDX, this helps to distinguish these bots from the similar looking ones that have rockets and can cloak.
  • "Flickering Lights" setting now prevents electricity emitters from flickering as well.
  • Bingo goals that require using a ranged weapon to shoot something will no longer be given when using loadouts that don't allow any ranged weapons to be used.
  • Bingo goals that require looking at an image will be marked as soon as the image is viewed, instead of when the window is closed. This also fixes an issue where sometimes the image wouldn't get marked as viewed, depending on how the window was closed.
  • The "New Image" icon in the list on the "Images" menu will disappear when you click off of the image to another one.
  • "The Three Leg Augs" and "My Vision Is Augmented" loadouts will now default to Balanced Aug Slot Randomization instead of Unbalanced.
  • "Goal Locations" and "Goal Spoilers" buttons will no longer appear on the "Images" menu when you have no images to view.
  • Items that are randomized into a location "inside" a crate (Or if a crate is randomized into a location that overlaps an item) will get pushed to the top of the crate instead of being hidden inside it.
  • New "Death Cam" options under Rando > Visuals (Vanilla and Revision only).
    • "Spinning Camera (Original)": When you die the camera will spin over your dead body.
    • "Spinning Camera (Slowed)": When you die the camera will spin over your dead body more slowly.
    • "Overhead Camera (No Spin)": When you die the camera will hover over your dead body.
    • "Show Killer (Kill Cam)": When you die, the camera will follow the person who killed you.
  • Regular spinning death cameras will continue to spin forever, instead of stopping after 8 seconds (Vanilla and Revision only).
  • When the "Flickering Lights" setting is set to "Epilepsy Safe", lights that flicker extremely quickly will now pulse at a slower rate to ensure they don't still look like they're flickering.
  • "My Buddy Vinny" and "Play the Detective" bingo goals should no longer occasionally fail and then succeed. The failure will only happen in a real failure scenario.
  • Randomized dialog in the intro and outro will be spoken by the original character speaking the line.
  • Clones spawned from Crowd Control will now shoot fire extinguishers that they use in front of them, instead of in an arbitrary direction.
  • When using Password Assistance, the Known Accounts window will automatically select the first account in the list that you know the password to, instead of the last account.
  • Tracer Tong's randomized location at Vandenberg Command Front Gate is now closer to the vending machine, to better balance the speedrun.
  • Re-added the Autosaves-Only mode. This was previously removed in favor of Limited Saves and Fixed Saves.
  • Utility bots now have a smarter retry when they fail to spawn, potentially improving races/tournaments.
  • Stunned pawns (rubbing their eyes from gas, or shaking from taser) will now receive back attacks for the full 10x damage. (Except for Zero Rando or Balance Changes disabled.)
  • Moderate map balance changes are now enabled by default for Zero Rando Plus.
  • Randomly moved autoturrets are more likely to successfully move to their new location.
  • Randomly added autoturrets are more likely to successfully spawn in their intended location.
  • Shadows will no longer sometimes be left behind on the ground after NPC locations are randomized.
  • A large number of bingo goals can now be recompleted if a new bingo board is generated.
  • A large number of bingo goals will now be immediately marked as failed if a new bingo board is generated and the goal is unable to be completed (Such as when entering a new mission in Mean Bingo Machine, or using the New Board button mid-game).
  • General Map Fixes:
    • Leo Gold (the terrorist commander in Mission 1) will now be fearless in all game modes, instead of only when Goal Randomization is enabled.
    • The conversation with the hostages in the Battery Park subway station (Mission 2) will no longer start as you approach them. Instead, you need to actually interact with them for the conversation to begin.
    • The level transition from Airfield to the Hangar (Mission 3) is no longer able to be used from the outside of the bridge when "Glitches for Speedruns" are set to "Allowed".
    • Sam Carter only gives you one case of shotgun shells instead of 3 in Mission 4.
    • Items beyond the teleporter at NSF HQ (Mission 4) will no longer be randomized.
    • When Moderate Map Balance Changes are enabled, a prisoner manifest will be left on the desk in the Mission 5 jail, listing the items that were taken away from you.
    • Removed infolink trigger near the exit door of the MJ12 Lab (Mission 5) that referenced an infolink that doesn't exist, which caused an error message to appear.
    • More locations for items to be randomized around Maggie's and Jock's apartments (Mission 6).
    • The datacube with Maggie's birthday is guaranteed to be in her apartment (Mission 6).
    • "Experimental Subject Cells" Key in the Versalife Level 1 Labs (Mission 6) will no longer randomize into the locked cabinet in the lab.
    • "UC Shutdown Code" datacube in the Versalife Level 1 Labs (Mission 6) will no longer randomize into any locked areas.
    • Tong will no longer tell you that you've found one of the weld points if you've already destroyed one (Mission 9).
    • The instant death zone in the fan shaft on the surface of Area 51 (Mission 15) will always be gone after loading a game if the fan was destroyed. This was a bug that popped up intermittently, related to specific save timing after destroying the fan.
    • One book in Area 51 Sector 3 (Mission 15) will now be properly switched from Jacob's Shadow to The Man Who Was Thursday for both Male and Female JC (Previously, Female JC would still see Jacob's Shadow).
    • Area 51 Page UC enemy spawner reduction no longer applies to Zero Rando Plus, Rando Lite, or Rando Medium (Mission 15).
  • Non-Vanilla fixes and improvements:
    • A large number of bingo goals have had their available missions adjusted in GMDX and Revision to match which missions they can actually be completed in.
    • Non-Vanilla mods can now use the fully enhanced Randomizer "Show Classes" window in the "Legend" cheat window.
    • Non-Vanilla mods now get an "open doors" symbol in elevators with an "open door" button.
    • When entering a map for the first time with the password or code to a computer or keypad, the password will be correctly marked as known.
    • GMDX and VMD 2.0 will no longer incorrectly assign a hotkey to passive augs that don't need to be toggled.
    • Inventory and Augs are no longer completely removed after new game plus.
    • Projectile damage will now be randomized based on the default damage in the particular version of the game you are randomizing, instead of always being based on vanilla damage stats.
    • The "Known Accounts" window will now close when you finish hacking a security computer.
    • When playing a mod that uses Confix (Such as GMDX or Vanilla? Madder!), Harley talk to you after finishing Mission 1 if you didn't talk to him or Paul before finishing the mission.
    • Cloned NPCs that start the level out of the world such as the hotel raid (Mission 4) or the MJ12 ambush (Mission 8) should now be able to be given randomized weapons.
    • BeamTriggers (blue lasers) will no longer be replaced with LaserTriggers (red lasers), in Hong Kong Level 2 Labs (Mission 6) or Vandenberg Tunnels (Mission 12)
  • Revision fixes and improvements:
    • Revision can no longer change the "Gameplay Style" to "Vanilla" by cycling through the options backwards.
    • Revision now shows more useful descriptions of the randomized values of the "Life Leech", "Radiation Discharge", "Auto-Counter", and "AimBot" augs.
  • Vanilla? Madder! 2.0 fixes and improvements
    • Objects will no longer be sometimes left without collision when they are replaced by the Randomizer.
    • The conversation in the intro will actually start playing.
    • Backing out of the New Game screen will no longer cause the game to crash.
    • The "Character Setup" screen will now be considered a title screen, so Crowd Control effects will not function there, and Crowd Control will be able to connect while on that screen.
    • Skill costs shown on the "Character Setup" screen will now match the ones you see when you enter the game.
    • Turrets that have been moved will now have their guns placed in the correct location.
    • Scopes (Either binoculars or on a weapon) will now properly mark bingo goals.
    • Scopes (Either binoculars or on a weapon) will now look the same as they do in non-randomized Vanilla? Madder!
    • Key location randomization rules for Ocean Lab "Storage" key (Mission 14) will now be properly applied.
    • Skill Talents are now reset on new game plus.
  • New Bingo Goals:
    • "Advertising Works!": Look at enough advertising billboards through the game with binoculars or a scope.
    • "Support Local Business": Look at enough "Old China Hand" signs through Hong Kong with binoculars or a scope.
    • "Catch the News": Watch enough TV newscasts through the game with binoculars or a scope.
    • "Signs of the End": Look at the signs marking the different endings in Area 51 Sector 4.
    • "Construction Inspector": Look at the UC Control signs in Area 51 Sector 4.
    • "Fire it up!": Use the pipe flame button in the coolant area of Area 51 Sector 4 (Mission 15).
  • Bingo Viewer changes:
    • Goals can be marked to help you keep track of what line you're aiming for.
      • Left click to mark a goal
      • Right click to unmark a goal
      • Drag to mark/unmark an entire bingo line
    • The window no longer locks up temporarily when moved or resized on certain systems.
    • Font size more accurately scales to best fit the tile size.
    • The green progress bars now fit to the edges of their tile
    • The Bingo Viewer now has a window and file icon: a dynamic portrait of Walton Simons.

  • The new game screen now shows recommended presets.
  • Added buttons for Save Settings and Restore Settings on the Advanced New Game screen.
  • You can pet the robots! (Except for Medical and Repair Bots)

Minor Changes

  • Robots can now be randomly given a pistol weapon or a radioactive weapon.
  • Added more info to default speedrun splits notes.
  • In vanilla, bingo goals for destroying robots can now be completed by disabling the robots as well.
  • The sniper in the Area 51 surface tower is now active immediately if you start in the tower instead of waiting for 9 seconds.
  • Improved some RNG to be more evenly distributed.
  • Rando Lite no longer has added merchants.
  • The "Songs Played" count shown when a piano is highlighted no longer shows if Memes are disabled, since it also disables the additional songs that can play.
  • Some doors that have pneumatic sounds now break into metal fragments instead of wood, such as the Ocean Lab Sub Base sub bay doors.
  • Fixed the size of some objects that replace the Earth being grasped by the hand statue.
  • The 350 skill points for redirecting the missile in Silo (Mission 14) can no longer be acquired by walking to a certain spot in the command center. The skill points will now be properly given only when actually redirecting the missile from the launch computer.
  • Changes to October Cosmetics settings
    • Spooks (spiderwebs and jack-o'-lanterns) and red screen tint can now be turned on or off separately in global settings.
    • Spooks are now correctly turned off in Halloween modes, when disabled in global settings.
    • Spooks are now correctly turned on when not in Halloween mode or October, when enabled in global settings.
  • Improved faction detection when cloning enemies. Bots in the Airfield (Mission 3) should now clone NSF-related enemies, and spiderbots in the Vandenberg Tunnels (Mission 12) should now spawn MJ12-related enemies.
  • Enemies cloned from the NSF in Mission 3 will now be cleaned up better in non-vanilla versions of the randomizer.
  • "Send him back to the people" bingo goal now gets marked as failed as soon as Leo Gold disappears from the game.
  • The bingo help window now shows the possible missions as a list with human readable names. If the goal is active in the current mission, the mission will be clearly marked in the window. In Zero Rando, missions beyond the current one will only be listed as ??? to avoid spoilers.
  • New Bingo Goals:
    • "Spoils of War": Buy something from Tech Sergeant Kaplan (Mission 1).
    • "We're Cops": Tell Tech Sergeant Kaplan you're going to take a minimum-force approach (Mission 1).
    • "Bench Warmer": Sit on 3 benches scattered around Liberty Island (Mission 1).
    • "Peace Keeping Occupation": Speak to Gunther after completing a mission (Mission 2, 3, or 4).
    • "Who will help the widow's son?": Speak to the Freemason in the Free Clinic (Mission 2).
    • "Pet x Cleaner Bots": Pet enough cleaner bots (Missions 1, 2, 3, 4, 8).
    • "Pet x Commercial Grade Security Bots": Pet enough commercial grade security bots (Missions 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 11, 15).
    • "Crawl under the super freighter helipad": Crawl through the tunnel connecting the electrical room to the helipad (Mission 9).
    • "Raise the bridge in engineering": Use the keypad next to the bridge in the superfreighter engine room to raise it (Mission 9).
    • "Our Country 'Tis of Thee": Listen to the bum in Battery Park sing his whole rendition of My Country 'Tis of Thee (Mission 2)
  • Mission starts inside the Ocean Lab or at Silo (Mission 14) will now start with the sub bay doors open in the Sub Base. Silo starts will also start with the sub bay doors open in the Ocean Lab itself.
  • Randomly placed datacubes (such as Medbot or Repairbot hints) should no longer be able to get placed in unreachable areas (Such as underneath the shanty town huts in Mission 2 Battery Park).
  • Synthetic Heart aug improvements and fixes:
    • Aug levels are always shown as the actual level, instead of the effective level if being boosted by Synthetic Heart (In other words, an aug will show the same level whether Synthetic Heart is active or not). The extra level from Synthetic Heart is shown as a plus sign next to the aug level when the aug is being boosted.
    • It is now possible to fully upgrade an aug while Synthetic Heart is active.
    • Fixed a bug where augs that get removed (such as on a New Game Plus or by a Medical Bot) while being boosted by Synthetic Heart start at level 0 when reinstalled.
    • Fixed a bug where Crowd Control could downgrade an aug to level 0 if it's being boosted by Synthetic Heart at level 1.
  • New Aug Slot Rando option: Balanced. Keeps the proportional number of augs per slot as close to default as possible.
  • Zombies raised from the player's corpse (or corpses of Crowd Control player clones) now get the proper face skin and hit sounds.
  • Troops that are fleeing during the apartment raid in Mission 4 are now considered dead for the purposes of defeating the raid (so you won't need to hunt down that one troop hiding in a corner to have it counted as being completed).
  • Paul's fashion should now be immaculate after uncloaking and in death.
  • Paul and JC's corpses will now correctly use the "floating" mesh if clothes are changed while the body is in the water.
  • "Who Needs Rock?" bingo goal progress is now properly marked when trading zyme to Lenny after getting a LAM from El Rey.
  • Karkians in the MJ12 Lab under UNATCO HQ (Mission 5) will now properly go hostile and try to escape regardless of how the door is opened.
  • Player clones spawned by Crowd Control can now use defensive augs, speed, cloak, medkits, biocells, and fire extinguishers that the player had when the clone was spawned.
  • Smuggler's bot starts "standing" instead of "idle", which means he will still react to threats when Smuggler knows you (and he becomes pettable).
  • Paul actually disappears after talking to you and going to the train in Mission 2.
  • Conversations that play while in first person will now try to trigger other events that happen after a voice line gets interrupted. This fixes/improves some cases where you get items or notes, or when flags get set after a voice line plays (for example, the trooper that gives you LAMs in the training mission, or Nicolette giving a password note when in the study of Chateau DuClare).
  • The Crowd Control setting will now automatically be enabled if there is a session connected when starting a new game.
  • When playing with Toggle Crouch disabled, you can now crouch while jumping. This was already possible when Toggle Crouch was enabled.
  • "Let Aimee and Le Merchant Live" bingo goal now gets properly marked as completed when traveling to any other map from Denfert-Rochereau. This fixes the goal with Entrance Randomization, where it would previously only be marked completed when you get to the Catacombs tunnels.
  • Open Aug Tree can no longer be opened on the title screen.
  • "AL" will now appear over the oxygen meter when swimming underwater while Aqualung is active.
  • The electrical panel in the basement of the NSF Warehouse (Mission 2) near the sewer entrance will properly disable the nearby laser triggers, as well the rest of the basement lasers (without disabling unrelated lasers elsewhere in the map).
  • Items that don't exist in the inventory grid will not be counted for the purposes of removing items beyond the "Max Item Carryover" limit. For example, with a "Max Item Carryover" of 5, you can wear 1 ballistic armor through the end of a loop while holding 5 unused ballistic armors in your inventory and not lose any of them due to the limit.
  • In Mission 3, the Sewer Door and East Gate keys now drop from enemies before they're removed after dealing with Lebedev.
  • Charged Pickups (things like ballistic armor, thermoptic camo, tech goggles) no longer count down their timers while in cutscenes (like game endings or helicopter rides).
  • Items like fire extinguishers or armors that are in use when finishing the game will be removed when starting New Game Plus.
  • Items should no longer be lost sometimes when dropped and picked up again quickly (GEP Gun juggling, for example).
  • Adjusted the alliances of everybody in the Versalife offices. Security guards should now spawn police-related clones, and the commandos that show up later will spawn MJ12-related clones. Workers with weapons will spawn more generic clones.
  • Zombies will now resurrect with the same head gear as they had before (helmets, visors, or lack thereof).
  • New Loadout: "No Rifles". Assault Rifle, Assault Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, and Sawed-Off Shotgun are banned, along with their associated ammos.
  • Enemies will no longer use a PS40 at extremely close range.
  • More reliable timer storage across crashes.
  • Fixed patrol points in the 'Ton Hotel in Mission 8 so that the riot cops actually patrol the hotel.
  • "Getting colder..." infolink from Alex in Mission 1 UNATCO HQ actually plays if you leave his office without talking to him.
  • Values in the Environmental Training skill description align better.
  • Smuggler's elevator button in the final New York mission no longer moves around.
  • Stackable items marked as Junk will now get picked up if they're already in your inventory.
  • Gordon Quick and Max Chen will try to move back to the temple if they are lured away while waiting for you to start the ceremony.
  • Hidden grenades (such as ones thrown in scripted locations in GMDX) will not get their type randomized.
  • Weapon Mods in GMDX can now be randomized into the Weapon Mod types added by GMDX (Damage, Rate of Fire, and Full Auto). Weapon mod chances will also be based on the number of weapon mods in GMDX, rather than vanilla.
  • Weapon Mods randomization chances in Revision (When using Revision maps) will now be based on the number of weapon mods in those maps.
  • MJ12 Commando machine guns now do 12 damage base instead of 15 (before randomization).
  • Trash bags will no longer break when stepped on if Other Balance Changes are disabled (such as in Zero Rando mode).
  • "Late Start" crates (such as when starting the game later than Mission 1, or when starting a new loop in WaltonWare) will now be placed in your hands if it for some reason fails to spawn in front of the player.
  • Gunther now becomes hostile to the NSF as soon as you give him a weapon when rescued in Mission 1, instead of only when the player walks through a trigger near the jail cell door.
  • Goals that require you to create dead or unconscious bodies ("Bring the terrorist commander to a bar" and "Sewer Surfin'") are now banned with "Grenades Only" and "Explosives Only" loadouts.
  • When the "Glitches for Speedruns" option is set to "Allowed":
    • Map Exits can be triggered by things other than players (which allows you to shoot the Map Exit in Vandenberg again).
    • Item duping is possible again.
    • Loading a game via a keybinding alias (Such as "LOADGAME 1") will no longer cause the game to get stuck with "LOADING" on screen.
    • A downgraded pistol skill on the New Game screen reverts back up to Trained.
    • It is now possible to highlight objects through narrow gaps next to doors, like the switch to power the Antimatter Reactors to end the game in Area 51 (Mission 15).
    • Superjump works again.
    • Lloyd will open the UNATCO door when you throw the gas grenade like in the vanilla any% speedrun.
  • If the player has negative health when entering a map (For example, if killed just before entering Jock's helicopter into a cutscene), they will now be killed instantly. (Unless the "Glitches for Speedruns" option is set to "Allowed")
  • It is no longer possible to open menus (Such as the inventory or goals screens) during the intro and endgame cutscenes.
  • Several bingo goals will now be properly detected as failed when relevant characters despawn after running away:
    • "Who will help the widow's son?"
    • "Buy the full treatment plan in the clinic" (If both doctors are dead or ran away)
    • "My Buddy Vinny"
    • "Play the Detective"
    • "Kill Joe Greene" (He'll only despawn in Mission 2, and this will only fail if the bingo duration does not extend to his next appearance)
    • "Take down Sandra Renton"
  • The "Sell Zyme to Renault" bingo goal now only requires selling 2 vials of zyme in games with short bingo durations (such as WaltonWare), instead of the default 5 vials.
  • Pool balls bingo goals only require 3 balls in games with short bingo durations (such as WaltonWare), instead of the default 5 balls.
  • Help text for bingo goals will now state the actual number of things you need to do instead of saying vague things like "enough".
  • When the game starts in the Warehouse District (Mission 2), bingo goals in Mission 3 UNATCO HQ will be considered possible for short bingo duration games (like WaltonWare).
  • Bingo help windows now scroll less per up/down press or scroll wheel notch. This gives more control when trying to read through the help text.
  • Hover text for teleporters to and from "the bar" in Hell's Kitchen (Missions 2, 4, and 8) now refer to it as the "Underworld Tavern" instead of as just the "Bar".
  • The blast door that drops in front of the elevator in the Versalife Level 2 Labs (Mission 6) will now be properly interactable after the UC is destroyed, allowing the key to be used to open it back up.
  • Hotkeys for buttons will now actually work in certain menus (the "Advanced" settings menu when starting a new game, for example).

If you don't know where to start with Deus Ex Randomizer, maybe this meme can help you!

If you've never played Deus Ex before at all, you can start with Zero Rando or Zero Rando Plus (the Plus variant adds some balance changes but still no randomization). Otherwise you can start with Rando Lite, Rando Medium, or if you're brave then Normal Randomizer.

Serious Rando is a new addition in v3.6, this game mode has goals rando enabled but without the silly locations. It also disables memes by default.

v3.6 also added the new WaltonWare Hardcore mode, which disables saving the game (perma death) and removes healing. See how far you can get!

If you're experiencing objects warping and drawing on top of each other incorrectly when using the D3D10 renderer, you need to install the 2010 x86 Visual C++ Redistributable package, which you can get from Microsoft here. Alternatively, you can use the D3D9 or OpenGL renderer (and check the Rando ➜ Visuals menu for Brightness Boost).

Biggest Changes:

  • New game modes:
    • Serious Rando: same as Full Rando but with some goal locations disabled, and memes disabled by default
    • Groundhog Day: your seed and settings will not be changed when completing the game and going to New Game+. Refine your run with each loop as you learn goal and item locations!
    • WaltonWare Hardcore: The WaltonWare experience, except ALL saving is disabled! You do not get healed after each loop. No medkits or medbots. How long can you last?
  • Options for auto enabling auto augs when installed
  • Pool tables are much improved
  • Added scaling and blackout options for scopes and binoculars, with a cool automatic "Fit to Screen" option that doesn't rely on fixed size textures and adapts to any screen resolution/ratio

This game mode is called WaltonWare. It gives you a random starting map, and a bingo board filled with goals that you can do within the area and nearby maps.

Once you complete 1 line on the bingo board it's a win and you move on to the next "loop" where you get a new random starting map and new bingo board.

If you don't know what Deus Ex Randomizer is, here's the trailer from v3.0 which gives an overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3mTcG6xeq4&list=PLZIQTa_kwZhBksj7UzcahPiRaHk87fWch&index=1

Download here: https://mods4ever.com/

It's been about 1 year since v3.0 let you pet the dogs and other animals. Here are some of the biggest things we've added since then.

  • Many new game modes:
    • Halloween mode, WaltonWare Halloween, and other varieties - adds zombies, limited saves, and Mr. H who is a big invincible guy that roams the map and tries to smack you.
    • Mr. Page's Mean Bingo Machine - A new mode where you play through the whole game, but must complete a bingo line before being allowed to progress to the next mission. Once you get to the next mission, you are given a new bingo board!
    • Zero Rando Plus - like "Zero Rando" (no randomization, very vanilla) but Plus more quality of life additions and balance tweaks.
    • Speedrun Training mode - shows where possible goal locations are without spoiling them.
    • We split off the old "Normal Randomizer" mode into "Full Randomizer", with the new "Normal Randomizer" being a more welcoming game mode to learn the Randomizer.
    • Strong Augs mode - increases the strength of augmentations.
    • One Item Mode - Our new dumbest game mode! All items in a map will be replaced with a single type of item (eg. all flares, all biocells, or all beers)

  • Many new loadouts and augmentations:
    • The default "All Items Allowed" loadout now starts with the new inferior "Running Enhancement" instead of the old "Speed Enhancement". Choose the "Speed Enhancement" loadout if you want to start with that like before.
    • The Three Leg Augs loadout - Allows Running Enhancement, Jump Enhancement, and Run Silent. You start with one of them. Enables aug slot rando by default.
    • My Vision Is Augmented loadout - Allows Vision Enhancement, Short-Range Vision Enhancement, InfraVision, and Motion Sensor. You start with one of them. Enables aug slot rando by default.
    • Random Starting Aug (instead of Running Enhancement)
    • And more!

  • Lots of balance changes
    • Allowing even more variety of play styles, especially with augmentations.
    • Balance changes are also now toggleable in the options. Disabled by default for Zero Rando, but most are enabled by default for Zero Rando Plus.
  • More goals rando, especially for Gordon Quick, and Area 51.
  • New augmentation slot randomization feature (so speed can be an eye aug)
  • Multiple, rotating quicksave slots
  • New menu to change current in-game settings
  • Many new bingo goals and improvements to our bingo game modes!
  • Deus Ex: Revision support is massively improved as a whole

A new world record!

He'll be playing in Bingothon on June 15th: https://oengus.io/marathon/bingos25/schedule/schedule#run-46178

13 is the most anyone has done in an hour, and we use the time of the last bingo finish as a tie breaker but this run didn't need that.

He played with some Halloween features enabled (notably, zombies and Mr. H)

NOTICES:

If you want to start with Speed Enhancement augmentation (improves running speed and jumping abilities) like previous versions, then select the loadout called "Speed Enhancement". Otherwise you will start with a new augmentation called "Running Enhancement" which only improves your running speed, with a chance to find "Speed Enhancement" in an aug can.

Also we want to do more speedrun races and content. If you can beat the game in less than 3 hours, or if you can do more than 4 loops of WaltonWare in 1 hour (use the new timer for this), then we need you! Come join our Discord or contact us anywhere else. Check out our new speedrun guide!

There is a savegame compatibility issue if you're in the middle of M06, M08, or M10, the safest time to update to v3.5 is when Jock is ready to take you to the next area.

Biggest Changes:

We just released Deus Ex Randomizer v3.4.1, including recent big updates for the Zero Rando modes (no randomization modes). One of the biggest updates is putting all of our balance changes behind toggles - off by default in Zero Rando mode, but enabled in Zero Rando Plus by default.

  • Vanilla Fixer: No gameplay changes, just compatibility fixes. Our installer ensures a smooth, battle-tested setup for modern systems with just a few clicks, inherited from Deus Ex Randomizer. Automatically installs Kentie's Launcher, D3D10 and other renderers, DXVK, Engine.dll fix for high framerates, and config tweaks.
  • Zero Rando: The pure Deus Ex experience - with no randomization, just essential bug fixes and optional QoL improvements from DXRando.
  • Zero Rando Plus: Same as Zero Rando, but with balance changes enabled (which you can still customize in the Rando ➜ Gameplay menu).

This is a fresh update, so if you spot anything that shouldn’t be enabled in Zero Rando, let us know! We're still constantly updating all of these game modes and the Randomizer.

New Game Modes

  • Mr. Page's Mean Bingo Machine: A new mode where you play through the whole game, but must complete a set number of bingo lines before being allowed to progress to the next mission. Once you get to the next mission, you are given a new bingo board!
    • Special handling for Anna and Walt in Mean Bingo Machine
      • Since they can be difficult to avoid killing, they needed special care to reduce impossible bingo goals on future mission bingo boards
      • 50% chance for Anna to be deleted from Mission 4, and Walt from Mission 14, so the bingo goals to kill them on a future board would always be possible
      • The other 50% chance leaves them but bans the goal from appearing on the future bingo boards
  • One Item Mode: Our new dumbest game mode! All items in a map will be replaced with a single type of item (eg. all flares, all biocells, or all beers)

Major Changes

  • Give the security computer in Mission 5 MJ12 Lab with Paul's camera the special computer skin, since it reveals Paul's randomized location
  • Aug Canisters now show the aug location in the description and also show the stats and description of the augs contained within
  • Augs can now receive randomized slots (so speed can be an eye aug)
    • On NG+, augs are first removed based on newly assigned slots, then more get removed only if you didn't lose enough already
    • Setting is a % chance for each aug to be assigned a new random slot (100% means all augs will have a randomly assigned slot, 50% means half will retain their original slot)
  • Deus Ex: Revision support is massively improved as a whole (see below)
  • Fixed issue with bingo goal scaling when changing Bingo Duration in the Advanced Settings
  • Many fixes for bingo goals and mid-mission starts

Major Deus Ex: Revision Changes

  • Music Randomization is now supported for the Revision and PS2 soundtracks!
  • Added "Goal Locations" button to Revision goals screen
  • Hacking Computers in Revision now uses energy (and has the Use Biocell button)
  • Fixed Zombie respawning for Revision-modified MJ12 Troops
  • Fixed Datacubes not being shuffled in Revision
  • Datacubes now have defined rules in Revision (should ensure datacubes are shuffled into "safe" locations before the location they're needed)
  • Area 51 Bunker vent entrance is now harder, like in Vanilla Randomizer:
    • The door on the top of the vent is locked
    • The password on the security computer has been changed (and a datacube added with the password)
    • The elevator starts at the bottom
    • The elevator call button has been replaced with a keypad (and a datacube added with the code)
    • Many goal randomization changes for Revision

  • We've seen some confusion with Limited Fixed Saves. When you have a Memory Containment Unit in your inventory (or 2 for the new Extreme version) you only need to have the box highlight on the computer and then you can use the normal Save Game menu or Quicksave button. The only freebie autosave you get is at the very start of the game. Make sure to save before going to Battery Park! Sometimes you might want to backtrack to save. Remember that if you die not all is lost, because you now have a better plan!

Changes

  • Fixed Mr. H from counting in the M04 raid enemy counter
  • Fixed zombie Howards preventing Silo from completing
  • Disable infolink about MJ12 if Paris is Chill
  • Added Paris elevator call button at the top
  • Some fixes for endgame cutscenes and NG+

When you have a Memory Containment Unit in your inventory (or 2 for the new Extreme version) you only need to have the box highlight on the computer and then you can use the normal Save Game menu or Quicksave button. The only freebie autosave you get is at the very start of the game. Make sure to save before going to Battery Park! Sometimes you might want to backtrack to save. Remember that if you die not all is lost, because you now have a better plan!

Major Changes

  • Extreme Limited Fixed Saves mode, uses 2 Memory Containment Units per save instead of 1. Must also be near a computer like in the other Fixed Saves modes. Pairs well with Halloween Mode for a new challenge!
  • Reduced Mr. H's health. You still can't kill him, but if you deal enough damage to him then he will run away.
  • Separate option for enemies weapons variety % (issue #729)
  • Slightly buffed prod range from 80 like a knife, to 88 (half a foot more). For reference, Dragoon's Tooth Sword is 96 range.
  • Fixed installer and BingoViewer crash when searching missing removable drives
  • Installer now detects if the game is running
  • Autofill passwords is now disabled by default in Zero Rando (non-plus)
  • Rando Medium now uses slightly reduced enemy randomization and enemy weapons variety
  • New home for the DXRando Activity bot https://mastodon.social/@DXRandoActivity
