Content warning: speculation and discussion about dystopianism, US fascism, mass surveillanceAfter ICE murdered Alex Pretti, it became known that he'd had a run in with ICE a week earlier, which was documented as he went to the ER for a broken rib courtesy of ICE. Knowing the prior interaction, the question arose as to how spontaneous the killing of Alex Pretti was. Was a decision to capture or kill him issued, on the day of his murder, as soon as he was recognized by the surveillance apparatus, before any ICE agent interacted with him?

Based on what this article about 2020 Russian technology used in Iran suggests, I'm more convinced the killing of Alex Pretti was more pre-meditated. My fears of facial recognition in general are pretty piqued after reading this

"Ukraine has not forgotten any of the thousands of Shaheds that attack our cities and villages, our people," President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Feb. 2.

Ukraine has designated Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in his evening address on Feb. 2.

The move brings Kyiv in alignment with the European Union, which labeled the IRGC a terrorist group on Jan. 29, in addition to imposing a new raft of sanctions against Iran.

"(T)he European Union has agreed to designate one of the main organizations of the regime in Iran, the so-called Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as a terrorist organization," Zelensky said in his video address.

"European procedures are currently underway. We in Ukraine have already made this decision and have already designated this organization as terrorist, and for us this issue is closed."

Before the blackout all piefed instances were not noticed and you could go on them without a VPN now some instances need a VPN like piefed.zip and piefed.social, my ISP is currently not in a blackout and it connects to international sites
EDIT: maybe it was just a bug because a lot of websites that weren't inherently political were not working piefed and stuff is working now

On 20 January the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed written by an Iranian politician promoting the Islamic Republic's viewpoint.

Today, we wrote a letter to the Journal's editorial team requesting that they qualify the article, explaining how it was submitted for publication (particularly whether the Internet was used) and also highlighting that the Iranian public are denied the opportunity to express their opposing viewpoints due to the ongoing internet blackout.

🗓️ Two weeks ago today, #Iran was cut off from the world by an extremist regime as the people went out on the streets to call for change.

With the digital blackout silencing Iranians' voices, authorities perpetrated one of the deadliest crackdowns in modern history.

A volcano in southeastern Iran has nudged upward by about 3.5 inches (9 centimeters) in 10 months. This might sound like a small rise but it has big significance.

A new study used satellite data to spot the change and argues that pressure is building near the summit.

Archived version

The state-run ISNA news agency reported on Sunday, January four, quoting the director general of Iran’s Water Information and Data Office, that the country’s water resources remain in a fragile condition due to the continuation of multi-year droughts.

According to Firouz Ghasemzadeh, the recent rainfall has had only temporary effects and is not capable of compensating for the accumulated deficit caused by several consecutive years of drought in Iran.

According to this report, precipitation in the current water year has increased by 11% compared to the long-term average and by 76% compared to last year.

...

Nevertheless, the provinces of Tehran and Alborz have experienced the largest decline in rainfall, with a decrease of more than 70% compared to the long-term average.

...

The reservoirs of dams in the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, Qom, Zanjan, and Markazi are in unfavorable conditions, and the supply of drinking water in cities dependent on these sources faces limitations; therefore, water consumption management remains a serious necessity in the country.
