Dragon's Dogma (kbin.social)

Anyone else excited about Dragons Dogma and the upcoming Dragons Dogma 2 game?

I am trying to get some people who want to talk about either Dragonโ€™s Dogma game to join the Lemmy version group in the Fediverse. I am currently playing through the first game on my Linux gaming PC. We can share news there. We can share pawns too, if anyone is interested.

I'm looking to try out Linux, but I don't want to have to re install all my games for it. I've got a 500 GB boot drive, and a 2tb where all my games are. I'd install Linux on a 250 GB partition of the boot drive. ty all :)

The blurb:
"DUSK HD is now a FULL VISUAL REMASTER OF DUSK.

We have remade every enemy, every weapon, every model, every texture,
EVERY THING.
FOR YOU. FOR FREE.
YOU'RE WELCOME.

We still have some work to do! But expect a full ON / OFF style comparison trailer around Halloween.

Then full launch with the SDK + Steam Workshop around DUSK's 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY in December.

The HD models, textures, weapons, etc will all be available on the Steam Workshop as free downloads and not integrated into the base game until you install them!

This is all completely optional! IF YOU LIKE DUSK JUST HOW IT IS THAT'S GREAT!

And YES you WILL be able to use both the old and these new assets to create anything you want with the SDK and upload your own creations to the workshop as well. We can't wait to see it.

Because DOOM may be Eternal but DUSK is FOREVER. ...Or something."

An anonymous reader quotes a report from 404 Media: Historically, video game preservation efforts usually cover two types of games. The most common are very old or "retro" games from the 16-bit era or earlier, which are trapped on cartridges until they're liberated via downloadable ROMs. The other a...

I have been offered a choice between these two cards, and I'm not sure which one will perform better in linux at this point. If it was Windows I would just go with the Nvidia and call it a day, but the driver situation on Linux has me leaning towards AMD. Is the AMD the right choice?

I'm using the Garuda distro.

Like 10-15 years ago I was into linux and tried a bunch of different distros (PCLinuxOS, Mint, CentOS, OpenSuse...) and was quite happy with the, then, limited options of gaming on linux (It was the time Valve released TF2 for linux)

But time passed, I got a new PC and didn't bothered install any linux distro (because I got a small HDD and didn't wanted to split it in partitions for linux)

Back then stuff like Proton did not even exists, so today I'm kind of lost and don't know what flavour I should pick, so here I am asking for advice

A couple of relevant details about the hardware, my PC is a little bit old (i7-7700) I hope that's not an obstacle to enjoy gaming on linux I also have an Nvidia graphic card

Also, while most people just use Steam I also use GOG regularly, if that matters

This game has recently come to my attention and it seems to work fine on Linux for now. But apparently the developers have decided to switch from their current anti-cheat (Easy Anti-cheat) to Faceit in the future, which would make it impossible to play on official servers on Linux.

Am I missing something here? I was interested in buying the game, but if they are going to basically disable Linux support in the future, it seems like a bad idea.

Edit: This article is quite helpful. Apparently the developers arent entirely sure about FACEIT either. So we will have to wait and see.

  • Gears 5 now works with EAC without any workarounds needed. If you previously used proton-ge to play, go into the game folder and remove these folders:

/GearGame/Binaries/Steam/EasyAntiCheat-backup
/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/GFSDK_Aftermath

Then verify the integrity of the game files so that it re-downloads the originals.

  • protonfix added for Two Worlds audio (thanks marciocr)

  • protonfix added for APB Reloaded (thanks telqor)

  • dxvk updated to latest git

  • vkd3d-proton updated to latest git

  • wine updated to latest bleeding edge

  • staging patches rebased

  • steam_helper updates imported from upstream

  • imported kaldi, openfst, vosk-api modules from upstream

  • fixed FFXIV Hydaelyn new player intro video not playing (again)

Spurred by the move to non-proprietary software I swapped out my Windows 11 for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and now 3 out of the 4 games I regularly play don't work well enough to play. I haven't checked games I only play occasionally, but I expect issues there too...

  1. Path of Exile via Steam - Works perfectly, in fact maybe slightly better than Windows
  2. Overwatch 2 via Lutris - Runs but with significant stuttering making it difficult to play
  3. Diablo 4 via Lutris - Cannot run due to "Graphics Initialization failed" error
  4. Melvor Idle via Steam - Runs but with minor stuttering and randomly breaks requiring complete re-install

I've Googled, and tried the most common solutions to these problems (like configuring Lutris to use VKD3D v2.8, running the script that Lutris provides with Overwatch, and add D4 to Steam and run from there) but no real positive changes.

For the most part, the rest of Ubuntu has been fine, but I don't want to be locked out of doing things I want to do on my own machine... Would appreciate any tips before I get too impatient and go back to Windows!

Thanks in advance.

A project I have a very keen eye on is NVK, the open source NVIDIA Vulkan driver developed by the community (not NVIDIA), and it seems like progress on it is going rather well.

i don't really have a reason to, as windows mostly just works, I'm wondering what benefits and downsides there are. will definitely dual boot at the beginning, but I'd be willing to fully move over if i like it

thanks guys :)

edit: also if there's some recourse y'all could point me to so i can get some baseline knowledge on this stuff, that would be fantastic

Blizzard recently announced that they will be enabling DirectStorage for Diablo 4 in the future.
Will gaming on Wine support this feature as new games start to enable it?

As far as I understand there are two benefits DirectStorage has, one is making load times faster while using less CPU resources and another one allows the GPU to almost entirely bypass the CPU and use the storage directly. Hopefully the first feature would be easier to implement because it doesn't need the GPU drivers.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and Starfield are two upcoming games that require SSD to play, presumably because of DirectStorage, curious to see what will the performance be like on Linux using Wine

On a quest toward trying to get the game Halo Infinite running under Linux via Steam Play (Proton) with AMD GFX6 / GCN 1.0 era graphics processors, Valve's prolific open-source driver contributor Samuel Pitoiset has added VK_NV_device_generated_commands support for these original Radeon GCN GPUs.

Note: This update is for the Steam Deck Beta and Preview channels, and includes new features that are still being tested. You can opt into this in Settings > System > System Update Channel.

General

  • Fixed issue where inviting a user to a game would cause the overlay UI to soft-lock.

  • Fixed second achievements progress bar not being filled in when comparing achievements with a friend.

  • Fixed sharing screenshots not working properly.

Desktop Mode

  • Fixed an issue where the system tray menu and Steam menus could open in the incorrect direction for certain monitor configurations.

  • Fixed a rare crash when using SteamVR.

  • Fixed videos continuing to play in browsers when window is minimized or closed.

  • Fixed page erroneously scrolling up when clicking certain parts of the advanced app filter pane.

  • Fixed overlay scaling when Steam display scaling setting disabled

  • Fixed case where a game would shell execute steam://store/<appid> to open a browser to their store page, but the overlay was not activated.

Steam Input

  • Gyro calibration now uses a time window to calibrate (5s), rather than a fixed number of samples (since Dualsense is now being sampled at 800hz, and could potentially autocalibrate over too short a period).

A change that Valve missed in the big recent upgrade of the Steam client, is that on Linux systems either desktop or Steam Deck, removing non-Steam apps should now be cleaner.

Valve has now released the latest big update to the Steam client, which brings with it various UI updates and the new in-game Steam Overlay.

Having Steam UI scaling issues? You may want to have a look at the Steam Client Beta that was released June 15th and see how you get on.

RetroDECK is just one of the ways you can set up your Steam Deck for emulation and their team recently put up a rather great sounding upgrade in v0.7.0b.
