Just make the joke, it is your obligation as a father. It would also greatly diffuse the situation and cooly tell your kid that you're fine with it and still love them, and that nothing will change between you two.
I'll hold onto that. Hopefully my kids would worry about me if I somehow didn't make the joke, at this point, anyway.
