We have bought an alternate domain. We are trying to figure out what the migration process (for changing domain name) would look like before making an announcement about this.
EDIT: To add, we also need to figure out whether we should migrate preemptively or not. That is on the docket as well. If we don't do that, we need to figure out a medium of communication if shit hits the fan. That is on the docket too.
According to the docs at https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/backup_and_restore.html, changing domain will break federation. Not sure in what ways, but best to be aware of that and mitigate as best you can. Good luck guys!
Any top level domain ideas?
We have .xyz for now. Open to other options too but we haven't discussed this much. Additionally, our .ml domain is paid for for two years. But we don't know if we could lose it anyway.
I think .su would be the most based one, it was pretty cheap in some domain registrar from Russia, I think I could help with some money if anyone would like to got that way.
Unfortunatly due to sanctions its near impossible to get in the US and EU at the moment...

I used https://xuid.ru before. They offer
.suand.rudomains. Not very cheap though.. But they accept BTC/XMR and you don't need to enter any contact information what so everBeget, I think the web site you are referring to is one that has some offices in New York and stopped selling them, but there are plenty of Russian registrars that sell it pretty cheap. I think that it costs 4USD for a year. When I purchased it I put all fake information and it didn't give a fuck, but it supposedly says obviously it needs to be real, but you know, that thing is still hidden from regular folks, I think.
Hexbear is squatting on lemmygrad.net for us, could always ask for it back
