In fact John locke, Stuart Mills, Voltaire etc were all racist as shit and owned shares in the British East India Company or outright owned people. Their refrain in India was protecting the women from the "savages" there. Probably the same "reasons" they used for colonizing Africa, China, Southeast Asia, etc... none of this is new.
