Chris Penk is kind of a dumbass, isn't he? The amount of things he's been completely wrong about is a very long list.

As long as the bearings are maintained, motors that don't experience shock loading can run for a long time.

I remember a motor that had no maintenance done on it in 2 years, it only failed due to the dust build up causing it to overheat. That is ~17500 hrs of running, without any maintenance at all.
