The problem

471 communities on lemmygrad but many are inactive. We want to revitalise them and make them active again!

The solution

We're gonna give communities with inactive moderation to you, the users. This will allow you to edit the sidebar, sticky posts, and in general provide a sense of pride and accomplishment.

The goal is that you will do something with the community to help it be active if it's not, which includes posting there. But no stress, we're not setting up quotas.

You can claim any community if:

  • the moderator or moderators have not been active for 6 months or more.
  • the community is moderated by one or more administrators of Lemmygrad.

For example, you could claim !me_ira@lemmygrad.ml because one moderator is an admin, and the other two have not been active over a year.

A community can be active in posts and you can still have it, the only criteria we look at is moderation presence.

How to do that

To claim your community, post a comment here detailing:

  • a link to the community you'd like (you can use the ! character to link automatically as you type, just give it a second to load)
  • also notify the current moderator/s (you can tag them with the @ character). Some may just be lurking.
  • why you are able to claim it
  • what your plans are for this community and
  • why you would be a good fit for it

We are looking to give communities to non-moderators first.

What happens next

We review your application, it's not an automatic grant. We wait for the owner/s to say something and if they don't, then we'll name you as mod alongside them first (you will need to comment somewhere in the community for us to do that). Down the line if you feel like it, we can talk about making you sole moderator.

Some context if you're interested in that

We have many legacy communities from the creation of lemmygrad and then the great Genzedong migration from 6 months ago (which is why it's our cutoff point). At the same time, us admins were the most active users on the site for a long time and so we created a lot of communities too as they were needed.

We are moving towards self-moderation and as the site grows, the admins should take a step back in moderating content. We also hope that we can revitalise those communities that have been left to abandon to increase the content (both in quality and quantity) on lemmygrad.

Hello! There are some communities that I'd like to adopt:

  • !japan@lemmygrad.ml:
    • It was made in 2021 (I assume, judging from the day @orc@lemmygrad.ml's account was created), saw only 1 post (Even then, it was made 3 months ago; so many years after it was created), and the sole owner and moderator (@orc@lemmygrad.ml) doesn't seem to be active on the 'grad anymore.
    • I aim to hopefully try and make it more relevant again by giving it the c/Korea treatment:
      • Sharing any articles about Japanese Politics I may come across, creating posts asking about the state of left-wing in Japan, sharing any Japanese Leftist spaces I may come across, in order to foster discussion.
      • In addition, I may try to translate Leftist Works written in Japanese should my Japanese skills become well-endowed in the future.
      • There seem to be a few Japanese Comrades (or well, comrades who live in Japan anyway) lurking around and sometimes posting in the 'grad. I hope they'll notice the existence of the Japanese community in the 'grad and make it more active as well.
    • I feel personally interested in refurbishing the inactive, barren community.

  • !touhou@lemmygrad.ml:
    • Both moderators' ( @tribunodelaplebe@lemmygrad.ml and @leninenjoyer@lemmygrad.ml ) last signs of activity were 5 months ago. Being someone who has a keen interest in Touhou Project (one of my writing projects involve spreading Socialism in Gensokyo) and fairly active in the 'grad, I would like to become a moderator of the Touhou community.
    • Like with !japan@lemmygrad.ml, I wish to refurbish it, giving it more ML undertones. I also wish to share any Touhou media and ML Touhou Imagery I may come across or create; as well as fostering discussion about Touhou Media and Gensokyo.
    • As I've mentioned previously, I have a keen interest towards Touhou Project.

sure sounds great, you just need to link me to a comment you make in both communities.

That touhou community can never get off the ground it seems ๐Ÿ˜…

i mean the anime subcomm sees activity sometimes, but remains inactive most of the time. so i wouldn't count on there to be many touhou fans in lemmygrad proper lol. maybe if non-lemmygraders discover the lemmygrad touhou subcomm we might see some surge in activity.

(i was also thinking of making a post about touhou games, about touhou 19 {recent touhou game} and rebranding it to look more communist)
