Depends on the weight of the ship, I think. Having a large section be unsupported like that could easily lead to structural failures, especially if the ship just had a massive snap up. There's an old video of a tanker splitting in two in about 8 seconds, because the front bow got filled with water and the additional pressure on the front was just too much while it was creating a large wave. I could imagine somewhat similar issues when you basically have the ocean pushing two halves upwards towards each other.
But it might also just be fine because it might also just be sort of like creating a wave
