If my coffee had to be vegan, I would be kinda upset because it means I couldn't have any dairy cream in it.

If my coffee couldn't be vegan (even served black), I would be even more upset because WTF would they be doing to it to make it inherently not-vegan‽

Jello and marshmallows aren't vegan for WTF reasons

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago

Yeah, they usually contain gelatin, which is extracted from animal skins and bones.

Vegan gelling agents are available (and in fact, marshmallows originally used marshmallow roots), but I guess, gelatin is just so cheap, because it's a waste product from animal slaughter.

So no more jello in my coffee either?

Same with most bread, beer, wine, apple juice, potato chips and white sugar.

I knew about the others, but what about bread and potato chips is not vegan?

Bread often contains L-Cysteine, made from hog hair or poultry feathers, as a baking aid. It is labelled as food additive E920.
Potato chips often contain whey powder, and some aromas contain animal products even if you wouldn't expect it.
