lmao, that reminds me of a tale from one of the Roman civil wars. In the Year of the Four Emperors, there was a battle in which legions based in Syria were about to clash with legions based in Germania, somewhere around Italy, I think. The Syrian legions, though, had adopted elements of Syrian sun worship, and as the sun rose, they, in the manner of the provincials, 'hailed' the sun in praise as it rose.

The legions from Germania mistook this as them hailing reinforcements, panicked, and lost the battle.
