I’m not so sure. They veer everywhere on Hexbear, they’re often people just chatting about random things and it’s a pain to scroll through all the inane chatter and jokes to get to actual discussion

I don't think they're much chatter (most of these inane chatter and jokes are just one comment replies, in my experience), especially later on, prolly when it closes up a bit, and I do see as much discussion as I see replies.

Two threads on the same news item might be 30 seconds of scrolling apart. There isn’t really structured discussion like we get on individual posts that can deeply engage with an idea and spawn a number of replies and thoughtful back and forths and be easily found.

Aye, fair enough... maybe I haven't thought this through, especially with the effort of organizing it.
