Sorry (n-sry) for the hijack. We still haven't heard from Flying Squid. I went through his posts today and made a list of bookmarks and enough personal details to track someone down. I would have to spin up another computer for outside of my network to try and track someone down like this. I was debating just posting the references because it is essentially doxing. He has shared all the info in bits and pieces. I have his wife's location and employment basics, his general job history and know he's on Linked In, date and place of arrival in the UK, the features of the building where he was staying, daughter's age, schooling, size and hair color, and other minor details. I'm not a skilled sleuth but I have talked to someone on Lemmy in the past that is and I bet this combo would yield results on that front.
I have mentioned in the past that my primary internet privacy concern is direct manipulation through algorithms and user dwell time monitoring. I am around 95% sure it was Flying Squid that replied to that comment, and stated that he felt the same. My circumstance with disability biases me to where I would find it endearing if someone noticed I was missing and came (digitally) looking to check on me. I don't have nearly the footprint that Flying Squid has had here. So... check my bias. What should I do in your opinion? Post it? Try to search it myself? Leave it be?
Don't worry he's fine, another person DMd me who has direct contact with him and he has actually simply quit Lemmy/social media.
I haven't posted it because the only way I know it's legit is because the user copy pasted FSs response directly and it's def something he'd write imo, but...........hmmm.......I'd rather not go into detail on it let's just say that LMAO
But he's probably fine
Good to hear. That is all I care to know. Thanks.
