Yeah, everyone who was in contention for yusho the last day did a great job, IMHO, and none of them have anything to be ashamed of.
I'd heard of sumodb but never tried it out myself til now! Yeah that interface is indeed inneresting, I'ma have to look it over some more some time.
It's true, age can really drag you down, I speak feelingly as an older guy who still tries to do competitive sports once in a while...
Rather than messing with the sumodb, I just clicked through the people listed on the yusho page. Only a couple people had mid 30s yusho-- Tamawashi had a win at 37, Chiyonofuji was 36, and Tochinishiki was 35. Looks like there were only a few other people with wins in their 30s at all.
As far as I could tell, in modern sumo Tamawashi holds the record for his win in 2022-- found an article about it.
