I think what they're getting at is this is clearly a simple script doing template generation: (1) statement of praise (2) statement of encouragement/thanks (3) a couple emoji. The sentences that are used to populate the templates might be LLM-generated, but these aren't state-of-the-art neural network "AI"s.

In a better world, this would be front-page news.

Wait, if Arthur wasn't some kind of Anglo-Saxon, what was he? Some kind of Celt? Pict? Cimerrian? Wikipedia just says "Post-Roman Briton" which I don't understand... Was his father really a centurion or something?

This is a charmless video-shot exercise without enough camp value to merit inclusion on !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world

However it does have two items of interest. First, the inclusion of Fred Williamson, a former pro footballer and star of famed blaxploitation movies such as Hell up in Harlem and Black Caesar; apparently he only spent two days on this film, but he's in it towards the end. The second is the inclusion of George Dillman, who you will recognize if you've spent any time watching "fake martial arts" videos. This video is on Dillman's youtube site; he has a scene in which he explains his "pressure point" system, and another in which he "fights" a couple guys while performing an impressive leg-splits.

Besides that there are a couple other martial artists and stuntmen and there's a christian theme to it so the director might have gotten his church involved or something. The director tries to put together a story, and kind of succeeds... it's not something you'll want to put much thought into, but hey... it's a bad movie...

The film [is] a dramatic and controversial story about a corrupt city government that uses an innocent community as its drug distribution center to generate money to fund revolutions in Central America. The film depicts corrupt city officials involved in unthinkable situations with a storyline that is sure to keep you glued to the screen. With Martial Arts gaining steam over the past few years ... its no wonder why we are seeing more and more quality martial arts action films dealing with extreme situations. ... the making of this movie is just another example of how martial arts is truly main stream.

From the title "Junior Video Editor" and your description of the salary you proposed it sounds like this is an entry-level job that'll probably go to someone fresh out of school.

It's hard to read too much into it because this might just be a form letter, but it sounds like they genuinely thought you were a good candidate but they were looking for a more junior position. Sometimes this is dictated by their budget available.

Even if this is a form letter, they probably have a letter for the case where the salary was OK but they never want to hear from the candidate again. So you didn't get that letter, at least!

It looks like this was a "near miss". It's discouraging, but keep at it, you can do it.

The big events of my Sunday were !superbowl@lemmy.world and Monsterdon. I consider this an absolute win. My cousin was telling me something about some halftime show but I was like huh?

Mixed feelings about Eurovision entries. I like seeing them without expectations. I had no warning that Kaarija's Cha Cha Cha or Go_A's SHUM were gonna be as epic as they are. I'll probably be on Mastodon when Eurovision's live.

Anyway, nothing's keeping you from the mainstream social media if that's where you'll find what you need. You're always welcome here!

Hey, it's Superbowl Sunday! Since I don't have the kind of image hookup that anon6789 does, I'm looking thru wikipedia for owls that I dig.

This here's a Sri Lanka bay owl! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka_bay_owl Looks very otherworldly!

Looks like Pixelfed's growth spurt is slowing down. Absent any new external stimuli I'm guessing it'll stabilize around 200K to 300K monthly active users -- over a hundredfold order of magnitude from what it was just a month ago.

Masters of the Universe (1987) is the subject of this Sunday's "monsterdon" watch party over on Mastodon, our fediverse sibling!

  • Just start watching that movie this Sunday, Feb 9, 2025 at 9pm ET / 8pm CT / 6pm PT, which is 2am Monday UTC
  • and follow #monsterdon over on mastodon for live commentary. For example, you can follow that hashtag here: https://mastodon.social/tags/monsterdon
  • I usually open two web browser windows on a computer side-by-side. But you could follow the mastodon commentary on a phone app while watching the movie on TV or something...

How to watch the movie:

[Masters of the Universe] stars Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Jon Cypher, Chelsea Field, Billy Barty, Courteney Cox, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Meg Foster. The film follows two teenagers who meet He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, who travels to Earth with his friends to stop their archenemy, the evil Skeletor from obtaining a cosmic key that will enable him to take over their home planet of Eternia and the entire universe. ...At the time of release, it was met with negative reviews from film critics, but is now regarded as a cult film.

Every once in a while someone uploads another copy of Akira to youtube. The latest one, from last week, looks good (Japanese audio with optional subtitles) but it's missing the last 30 seconds -- which is kind of missing the whole point of the movie. But this led me to check how many Akira uploads I could easily find from previous posts here and on !fullmoviesonyoutube@lemm.ee

Personally I think the first is the best. Weirdly, they all seem to be blocked in Germany and Austria. However, every previous upload I checked was still there. Not sure what that says, but as you probably know, it's an excellent film.

Akira (Japanese: アキラ) is a 1988 Japanese animated cyberpunk action film[4] directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, produced by Ryōhei Suzuki and Shunzō Katō, and written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto, based on Otomo's 1982 manga Akira. Set in a dystopian 2019, it tells the story of Shōtarō Kaneda, the leader of a biker gang whose childhood friend, Tetsuo Shima, acquires incredible telekinetic abilities after a motorcycle accident, eventually threatening an entire military complex amid chaos and rebellion in the sprawling futuristic metropolis of Neo-Tokyo.

Demonstrators gathered in cities across the U.S. on Wednesday to protest the Trump administration’s early actions, decrying everything from the president’s immigration crackdown to his rollback of transgender rights and a proposal to forcibly transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

...

The protests were a result of a movement that has organized online under the hashtags #buildtheresistance and #50501, which stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one day. Websites and accounts across social media issued calls for action, with messages such as “reject fascism” and “defend our democracy.”
