Personally I don't mind, but I find it problematic mostly because not everyone can be around dogs, be it because of allergies or past experiences.

Like literally anything else in the office, ask the question and respect people's limits. It can add to a workplace culture but not enough to overcome making someone uncomfortable. My dog is hypoallergenic so it occasionally gets special visitation privileges.
