In Dutch we have a saying 'horen, zien, zwijgen' which unpoetically translates to 'hearing, seeing, silence'. It is mainly used by people with bad intentions who do not want to be ratted out but I think this is a very wise strategy if you're in a situation where you and your fellow citizens are oppressed and you want to stay safe.
