It's always annoyed me that you see the recommendation to get a "side hustle" to get ahead... when in reality you need that "side hustle" just to afford basic cost of living. At that point it's not a hustle, it's literally survival.

Side note: I saw a post / tweet / comment somewhere that pointed out how depressing the phrase "cost of living" is when you think about it. I wish I could remember it verbatim because I often do think about that phrase and get a bit sad.

Recent ABS data shows the number of Australians working multiple jobs has reached a record high with an estimated 947,300, or 6.6 per cent of the workforce, now holding more than one form of employment.

Australian Youth Affairs Coalition co-chair Sarah Ramantanis said she had seen the number of young people juggling several jobs increase since before the pandemic.

With a jump in living costs for employees – up 9.6 per cent over the year to June — Ms Ramantanis said many young people had been left with no choice but to seek out more work.

A quick tour through the Brisbane bar where Mr Corvo works reveals a cohort sharing a similar story.

ABS data shows the Agricultural, Forestry and Fishing sector had the highest rate of multiple job holders, at 9.2 per cent.
